Just dropped it off at Galpin Jag. Car was completely dead this morning and I had to call Jag roadside to come jump it so I could take it in. We’ll see what happens. At least they paid for my Uber ride home
Yea galpin is weird they wont give u a loaner if u didnt buy a car from them but they have complimentary uber service… lame IMO
Agreed! Kind of a bummer to be stuck without a ride for a few days. It’d be especially lame if we only had one car. Hopefully whatever the issues are, I don’t have to put anything out of pocket.
As fate would have it, I just got a call back from Galpin and apparently while they were servicing my car, they backed it into an Aston Martin. They’re having to send it to their body shop to repair the rear bumper.
Anyone have experience with this sort of thing? What precautions should I be taking, and what should I be looking out for or noting so that I’m not being chased for this on lease turn in?
I’d take a precaution and try to get it down on paper or record the phone conversation. They damaged a car that isn’t technically yours (lease am I right?) but you’re responsible for the car. Laguna Niguel MB backed my car into a pole when I dropped it off for a first time car wash. They tried to shrug it off but it was so noticeable- I was pissed. The most they can do was buff it out. You can still see a mark under the sunlight. Careless tards.
Thanks, Alex. I’ll have to make sure I have all of the proper documentation from them about it when I go in this afternoon. I do feel bad for whoever it was that did it as I’m sure he’ll probably be out of a job very shortly, if not already. But it’s certainly disappointing to have all of this happen in the first 3 weeks of my lease.
hopefully this just means you are getting all your bad luck early and out of the way bro. sorry and best of luck!
This car is cursed, if you need me to pick it up on a swap I can help
You are feeling sorry for your Jag? How about the poor guy whose Aston Martin your car was backed into? Now he will have to make do with his Maybach while they fix the Aston Martin!!!
They should make Jag pay for this as they don’t install a backup cam on an 80k car (probably why it happened)
No kidding. This is all the more reason for me to get it installed sooner rather than later.
I’m sure they’re probably going to put me in a base XE loaner for the time being, too.
Lol… it’s not really like that. Most people think we can afford a few of those no problem. I can safely say 90% of the people I meet who drives a car $60k+ has a good motivational success story and are frugal in ways that got them to the car. The problem with society nowadays is that people don’t believe these drivers earned their cars… it’s sad, really.
Sorry to hear that. Get pictures and written/signed incident report. Have them install a backup camera as a “sorry” they own GAS down the street they do high end modifications so it wouldnt be much for them. And while they are at it, put you in a Lotus Evora as a loaner, they own that dealer too
Tell them to keep your Jag and you take Aston for the same money
They loaned me an XE. Not quite comparable but I guess I’ll have to take a road trip this weekend in it.
Pics of the damage (with bonus pic of the car since I still haven’t posted one)
Son of A… idiot probably gassed it in reverse… without even looking behind.
Yeah, I imagine he probably shifted up into reverse thinking it was parked. It’s not particularly intuitive to have to push the button to set the car in park. Though if you work for Jaguar you probably should know that by now.
ouch that sucks I would be livid. I would think as long as it’s repaired there should be no issue on turn in…
As a side note I hope that the V6 340hp model will be able to be leased well now that it’s the 2nd level. Do you guys think it will be harder to get a good deal since the 4 cylinder is out?
No good excuse for this one. I liked the recommendation that you have them install a backup camera for free. They should really have you in a demo F-Type, not an XE. You would think they would go out of their way given the level of recklessness. This is why we lease them. It would be a lot more unpleasant if you had to think about diminished value and all that.
And here is my second thought about diminished value (we’ve already discussed it a while ago): what if one tries to claim it for himself instead of leasing company on the premise that he was going to buy the car at the end of lease? This is not necessarily about @dukez’s case.
