Sheesh is all I can say.
Not cool, its not an electric crossover.
Does it qualify for $7,500 rebates?
I’m not confident it will be any faster than the ZR1 (except for 0-60/quarter mile).
All that extra weight for additional 186hp?
0-60 is about grip too not jut power to weight. Remember the ZR1 limits power in 1st gear because it cannot put all the power down effectively.
The zr1 could go toe to toe with most supercars right now, this ZR1x? That might go for some HYPERcars. I am hoping its under 250k
I have no doubt it’s gonna be fast as hell, but after seeing how the Lamborghini Revuelto behaves on track I’m not sure how much the extra weight vs extra power is worth.
This might be over simplifying it but the Eray is faster than a sting ray, so maybe the ZR1x is faster than the ZR1?
Good point. That could be the case, indeed.
I don’t think that GM would be releasing something like this if it wasn’t faster, or at least quicker. There needs to be some benefit they can sell to people who will be in a position to choose between it and the “regular” ZR1. Personally I think it will be a tough sell to the average Vette buyer, just like the E-Ray. There just doesn’t seem to be much of an appetite for these types of cars when manufacturers start electrifying/hybridizing them. By many accounts the latest generation NSX was a brilliant car yet it was mostly a flop and I suspect the word “hybrid” had a lot to do with that. I think that the success of the Prius in particular in introducing the word “Hybrid” into most people’s lexicons was a bad thing for other automakers attempting to add these technologies to performance vehicles. Whether they realize it or admit it I think that most people associate the word with something that’s slow and/or boring. I imagine that Chevrolet will probably not talk about that portion all that much in their marketing materials and will focus on the AWD component.
The NSX was always destined to be a flop.
The ingredients that made the first gen a success were all missing:
Bonafide connection to F1 and legendary driver Ayrton Senna
Huge gaps in the market:
Contemporary Ferrari (348) was widely panned
Contemporary Lotus (Esprit) and Porsche 911 (964) were updates on really aged designs
McLaren didn’t exist
C4 vette was not anywhere near a super car
Lamborghini and Bugatti were barely alive
Interesting with the crazy zr1 adm how this is being released.
Also hoping these take the spotlight off the z06 a bit and make those even more affordable though around 10-15k off seems doable RN
