XC90 T8 Problems

It’s not available yet. I was told not to drive in B.
And if that happens, press gas pedal to “reset”.

Really? Our 3.6.4 pushed OTA. I wonder if it’s a rolling release.

Interesting. I was at service this week and they said no recall and no fix yet.

3.6.4 pushed OTA to me on 6/18.

Looking at this site, I see OTA isn’t listed under 3.6.4 anymore. Additionally, they throw in a comment that they can pull any OTA update whenever they want. I wonder if they did that.

Maybe they pushed it as scheduled before that recall and it did not address the issue?

If it was pushed to you on June 18, it was only 2 days old.
Edit: and why do we listen to @jeisensc that the issue would be fixed by 3.6.4?

I saw that they switched it from OTA to workshop only. I’m not scheduled to be out your way until the end of October but if I am sooner I’ll bring my workshop update rig with me.

Volvo warranty language for the @Ursus rig:

YOUR WARRANTY IS VOID IF THE :potato: HAS IN ANY WAY MESSED WITH, FUCKED AROUND ON, ATTEMPTED TO FIX, FLASHED THE ECU, TOUCHED OR OTHERWISE LOOKED AT YOUR RIG.

The screen shot is from the Volvo app, dealer’s service dept also said no update yet… So why do you think 3.6.4 will fix it?

:potato: has voided many warranties, but thanks to right-to-repair laws, installing buggy software on buggy hardware is not only allowed but encouraged.

Are you volunteering to do the code review on the BCU firmware? i took x86 asm so I’m useless there.

I think B-mode is stupid. I don’t have any insight into the cause to know it it’s fixed. Do I trust Volvo software quality? Fuck no.

3.6.4 is still the latest workshop update. There will be more updates, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more changes to B Mode. Usually updates are pulled from OTA bc they’re bricking head units. I don’t have any insight into this with Volvo but Subaru got into a similar situation and eventually ran service campaigns to get the software on those cars updated so they could get back to OTA.

Volvo should be hosting cars and coffee events with free updates, their goodwill fund has been overdrawn for a long time now.

Yes, been in this position dozens of times. However, and as you know, you have to be very careful with any mods, regardless of the intent. Very easy for any manufacturer to give you grief and for you to have to fight it under “right to repair“ as an additional headache whether it is a pure SS reflash or not.

With that said, people always wonder why I have so many laptops and a bin full of OBDII dongles out in the shop with the car tools.

I just got a letter in the mail for the recall on the backup camera on the T8.

Same here!

I drive in B mode constantly, I find the one pedal driving very convenient. Maybe I should rethink that decision going forward.

If staying alive is a priority, I’d advise it.

Yeah, same here. It’s very convenient (when it works properly).

I too drive in B mode constantly and enjoy using it. Do you know if this issue affects the 2025 model year?

Also I keep getting this warning on my dash. Has anyone experienced an issue like this?

Had that issue on my demo XC90 had service just plug it in to their computer and it was resovled.

Got it. I am picking my car up from the service today. Hopefully it won’t happen again.

Did you notice any difference when driving in normal D mode? I have a 25 xc60 t8 loaner with 3.6.4 and it drives like in B. Releasing the accelerator breaks and car does not roll. The car does not start moving when brake pedal is released. Nothing like this happens on my XC90 T8 in D mode on 3.5.14
