Hey all, tried searching but didn’t have much luck so I’m curious what you all think of real world use of the 6 seat vs 7 seat
We love the captain seats in the 6 seat but unsure if it’s worth the extra money (forces you into the T6 engine). Right now it’s 2 adults and a 2 year old. We take frequent weekend trips with 2 small dogs. So in a 7 seater the kid + dogs would be on the bench and fold down 3rd row for storage. In a 6 seat we’d have to fold one 3rd row down but keep the other. We’re also thinking of another kid in the future
Curious about real world examples / opinions. Worth it? Hassle? Thanks!
I have one small dog and I usually take her in my v60 wagon. We have a little pup seatbelt and a car cover and she does wonderfully well.
If you get a 6seater, are you going to use it forever as this setup, if you plan on having another kid in the next 3 years are you going to get use out of it?
In the 7 seater scenario, is that going to work with car seats? What’s your plan there?
I personally was raised in sedans and wagons as an only child, and have no kids of my own, just a few wonderful niece and nephews to spoil so I can’t comment on the storage necessities and your needs.
All good points/questions. In my mind a 6 seater works best if we have 2 kids Bc you put them in the captain seats and can more easily get to the back to put the dogs in. In a 7 seater with 2 kids you still have them in the 2nd row but now it’s harder to get to the back for the dogs (or 1 dog in middle, 1 in back). So I guess it comes down to how many kids we have! Ha!
We have a V90, although different from the XC90, we have two dogs and frequently have family in the back seats. I think it’s always easier to have the dogs in the far back, especially if you have people in the back too. Guess it just depends on if you guys have another kid. Either way, you’ll probably adjust and get used to it. Good luck.
Sounds like you don’t need a third row so don’t pay a premium for one. You can get a 2-row wagon or crossover for a lot less (V60, XC60 as well as brands other than Volvo).
Good point. I’ll echo similar sentiments. Of our two dogs, one is a 200 pound Great Dane. If we didn’t have such a large dog, a V60 is more than enough room. The V90, and probably more so the XC90 because of the third row, is kind of overkill unless you have a bigger family. Occasionally I wish we would have gotten the V60, although I do love our current wagon.
I never had captain seats but I doubt they will be practical with a kid. We have a 3 yr old and grandma and large bench in the back serves us well with all the kid’s stuff.
We did test drive the xc60 as well but felt it was too small to haul our stuff for weekend trips. Not really interested in any wagons but appreciate the input.
Cost difference is about $6-8k less going to 7 passenger. I would go with a momentum either way so no not really getting any other features (besides that often the 6P T6 MOM cars have advanced package which i don’t care about).
I think i’m starting to talk myself out of the 6 passenger (with all your assistance)
We’re in a very similar situation–me, spouse and 19 month old–and seriously looking at the XC-90. We are going to the T6 but keeping 7 seats. It offers flexibility if taking extended family (parents/in laws). I’d find the captain chairs more useful if the kids were out of car/booster seat, but don’t see really any pro to it given our situation.
Another option on 7 seater if you want to separate dogs and kid is to keep 3rd row up, use the rest of 2nd row for bags, and put dogs in 3rd row.
Unrelated, have you test driven the T5 or T6 yet? If so, would love your feedback.
I ask because we haven’t yet but will this weekend. I’d like to save the $$$ and go with the T5, but from what I heard you get a big boost with the supercharged/turbocharged upgrade of the T6.
Yeah, agreed on the 7 seat. I think the 6 seat was really appealing at first because it just looks better, but the more I think through it the less it makes sense in our situation.
We drove a T6 XC90 and T5 XC60. The T6 was nice with the extra power from a stop due to the supercharger. Since we don’t tow anything and certainly won’t be driving this spirited at all I’m starting to think a T5 would be fine and help save money. I’m sure the T5 would be a bit more painful entering freeways and such but our 4Runner is similar and it doesn’t bug me.
