World of car detailing?

One bucket, one microfiber to wash with rinse less solution, one microfiber to dry, toss the dirty one and wash the other one

Fold the microfiber twice you get 8 squares to wipe with should be enough for most cars, use two if you are more conservative

I actually prefer more rags because i can’t justify putting just one into the machine. There are videos of one guy (I think Yan) who uses one rag folded into little squares and he just does a different square for each panel. And that supposedly can be done in 10 min but I have never been that quick.

If I win Powerball, I’m just getting a new car every time it gets dirty.

I’m guessing that’s similar to the big red sponge from optimum. It never looks clean so i find it hard to accept that the dirt is really coming out and falling to the bottom. The black may be hiding it.

You do clay for every wash??

I could pretend to be a marine going through boot camp, learning to wipe my ass with a single ply of toilet paper… or I could grab a dozen of the hundred rags I have laying around and use them.

I switched to a rinseless product after years with foam

  1. Buy some decent stuff.
Bad user experience is prob the main reasons people get a bad result.

If the soap doesn’t lubricate or clean well. End up using more pressure

If the sponge/micro fiber mit sucks u get scratches

If the wax hazy and hard to wipe off the process sucks.

rain-x is fancy???

what does this 1-bucket, lots of rags method actually entail because this just sounds like washing the car normally. I just got my first bottle of ONR and want to get started with it.

this stuff?

yeah we don’t get salt but we do get tons of dirt and pollen and hard water spots. this is on top of the 6,000,000 different trees that produce sap and stain the cars so they look like they have mold.

The way it’s supposed to go is literally take your bucket over to your dry car, grab rag out of bucket, wipe down panel, dry off panel. No need to rinse, pre-wet, etc.

I usually hit it with a hose first though, because why not.

This is hyperseal. Opti-CoatĀ® Hyper Seal 16 oz. - Opti-Coat

Opti-coat is the Optimum products targeted at businesses rather than consumers.

Tutorials - Optimum Forum Take a look at some of these and you’ll see what others do.

Then your friends will think you’re an idiot for doing all this on a leased car.

Anyone know about how to maintain BMW’s merino leather or Mercedes’s Nappa leather? Lots of mixed information online on whether they are semi-aniline or full-aniline. What leather products would you use to maintain them?

KC Green Star at 1:30 or Pol Star 1:5 with a fairly gentle brush should do it.

Thanks! What about leather conditioner, is it needed?

KC Leather Star if you feel the need. :slightly_smiling_face:

Did you get any of their coatings? I got the gloss coat and a bottle of ferrex to use before applying it. Hoping it’s easy breezy and works well with the rest of their chemicals.

I also ordered the protectant for the interior because my kids like throwing up in the car so why not.

I purchased one of their ceramic coatings… and it still sits in my garage, waiting for me to actually use it.

How well do the exterior products work? Do they make much of a difference in terms of maintenance washing?

 funny, but not funny from experience. I have one who is nearly guaranteed to throw up during longer car rides.

The ONR/Hyper Seal combo is incredibly good. I (stupidly) couldn’t figure out the whole tree sap thing and didn’t realize what it was till I moved here so I would spend hours trying to remove these dark spots that landed all over a white exterior that didn’t come off easily. With the sealant, it helped quite a bit.

I was told hyper seal on top of gloss coat will look more ā€œwetā€ and glossy. It’s a $60 coating made for DIY beginners and should last the life of the lease with hyper seal on top.

And the throwing up is terrible. I have no idea if the protectant will work but i’m so traumatized by the experience that I’m willing to throw 20 bucks at the problem to see if it helps in the future.

Tree sap is a nightmare and has to be removed within a few days. Its difficult to remove period, but it can become extremely difficult once baked on. Also, tree sap, tar, even bug splatter can permanently etch the paint if not removed. I’ve seen it happen on cars (thankfully none of mine, at least not yet).

In the fall of year I will typically use the Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic spray. I’m not a fan of Turtle Wax products, generally, but I use that on our vehicles that I don’t want to ā€œwasteā€ my good products on. It exceeded my expectations after the first application, price is right, so I keep it in my arsenal.

Throw up can be a disaster if it gets into the seats and flooring. I use car seats protectors and all weather floor mats… so most spills, crumbs, dirt, etc. should be contained for the most part.

Ask yourself what you think is worse - if they do it in a rear facing seat or front facing. The answer will surprise you.

Also custom cut all weather mats from Ali express are amazing deals that everyone should do.

Any recommendations on ali mats?
