Car got broken into.
Have about 3 months until the car return, but cannot drive around with a broken window.
Now need to replace the window
Any experience with that anyone? Should I replace it with OEM windows? or with after market parts? Theres about a $250 difference.
I used aftermarket and am hoping for the best. The prices on newer glass, can be exorbitant. I paid $1700 for a front windshield on a Kia Cadenza. Insurance covered $1200. We will see if they catch it, and make a stink…
My last GM lease had an aftermarket windshield that I didn’t realize was aftermarket until after it was installed, and I didn’t feel like fighting it since it was a lease. I had a GM lease once that had the rear glass replaced 3 separate times (once because the defogger wasn’t working, and 2 other times because the glass was so wavy, I refused it). GM put in aftermarket glass both times under warranty. Nobody batted an eye either time when turning in.
I know GM and Honda are 2 separate companies, however, I really don’t think you’ll have an issue.
OP, save yourself $250 and get aftermarket. Inspector is only looking for cracks, chips, etc and not looking to see if the windshield is actually OEM. There are actually third party companies that auto makers use for their vehicles for glass. In other words, a VW (for example) will not have a “VW” emblem on the windshield, etc.
Lease end inspectors are simply looking for wear and tear (dents, scratches, tears, broken glass or chips in the windshield, etc.)
What window is this? Since most thieves bust a side window (door glass or even rear hatch) and not the windshield to get in to a car. The vast majority of glass shops are using aftermarket glass (even most dealers on repairs). Just make sure they guarantee it to match the rest of the glass (no weird tint) and you will have no problem. No need to disclose it when you turn the car in, if it matches the rest of the glass you’re good to go.
