I’m new to leasehackr. It seems that there isn’t much action in Maryland or the DC area. Can someone explain why? Thanks
If you are saying there is a lack of broker advertised deals…I would agree …however there are plenty of deals to be had. Baltimore Maryland is a major auto port on the East Coast. Lots of inventory. Good pricing …Many people come here from out of state to buy/lease.
What brand are you looking at? We do plenty of deals in that area.
DMV area often offers very aggressive dealer discounts. Half of them are bullshit when you add the destination fee back into the deal but they can still be pretty good.
Maryland has one of the highest taxes on leases in the union.
Many (most) of the NE brokers service the Mid-Atlantic. Some even source their cars from the region.
Crook County and Chicago City would like a word.
Ridiculously irrelevant to the question OP asked.
Dude, there’s like 10 BMW brokers alone in the midatlantic. I think the midlantic is the best car deal region in the country lol. I don’t know why you say it’s a deal desert here when @holeydonut would give up his first born for a midatlantic taycan deal lol
What are you talking about? The 6% MD sales tax paid upfront based on total sales price and $800 doc fee makes every deal in MD look terrible compared to other states. The actual deals in this area are very good due to the level of competition, but taxes and fees make leases look expensive.
What am I talking about? Exactly what you said:
A “great deal” itself has zero to do with your taxes and/or taxed amount, and that is exactly what you said. If you don’t know the difference between a good deal and a good deal with a bad tax situation then you shouldn’t be leasing.
You live where you live and there are plenty of people in MD that lease.
You guys out East get spoon fed so many poooorches from the brokers.
I’m looking for inexpensive leases for my nephews. We are flexible on the brand
This 100%. Would my ZDX lease be a great hack in NC but because of Virginia taxes a mediocre deal? You play the hand you are dealt. Otherwise someone’s lease hacking skills would be largely determined by their state/local tax laws.
The volume of dealers here is pretty good. There are only a few metro areas in the country with the volume of car dealerships within a relatively limited area (say within the beltway/within a few miles outside the beltway). I have never had issues finding someone to make a deal with. Just takes a lot of emails and phone calls.
Of course, unless you are registering an EV in DC, DMV deals don’t look as good as the California and NY deals posted on here.
I wish my Uncle was like you.
Exactly. Just look at @djrabbi with his MT and NC taxes lol
Net % off discount at base MF minus BS add ons and inflated doc fees is what determines a great deal.
As the OP said, he is looking for a low cost lease. One could get a great deal on 13-month lease on an Ioniq 5 last year almost anywhere in the US except MD. The tax situation made that a non-starter. You are confusing great deals with low cost. Many people who lease are looking for low cost. The tax situation in MD does not make many leases look like great deals compared to the payments seen in other states. It makes it “appear” like there are no good deals in MD due to the tax situation. I think that is what the OP is implying.
Taxes have nothing to do with it being a “good deal” or not. A good deal is a good deal, your taxes are going to be there whether it’s a good deal or a bad deal.
Now, that being said, lower taxes and better incentives can make certain cars or payment methods more attractive than others. For example, it makes more sense to get an EV in NJ/CO vs being in FL or TX.
