Why isn’t this math working?

Looking at a Palisade limited AWD. The dealer gave us this sheet and when I plug everything into the lease calculator I’m coming up with very different numbers. What am I missing?

Lease calc

You sure you wouldn’t be better off financing this one? Looks terrible.

We can’t really tell you unless you post your calculator link.

It is below the image, sorry it gets a little lost

Oh, definitely not taking this deal. I’m just confused as to why my numbers are so far off

You put the sales price after dealer accessories as the msrp, which isnt correct. That doesnt make up the differencr, but isnt right.

Yes I debated which way was correct but it was only $199 so that’s not the problem

Oops, missed it. Sorry!

A calculator is just a tool to construct your own offer and/or recalibrate someone else’s shared deal for your own taxes, incentives, RV/MF etc if they are different.

I’ve rarely seen anyone make any further headway by decoding a dealer quote into the LH calculator. If it matches, so what? Math doesn’t lie. If it doesn’t match, so what? Dealers aren’t going to lower their offer because your calculator said so. Chances are, it was the consumer’s error. If not, GL getting a dealer to admit it was theirs.

To be very candid, the ship sailed once the consumer asked for a quote instead of presenting a well-researched offer of their own.

We definitely aren’t buying this car. I just had sticker shock and I’m trying to see if my numbers are way off because of something I did wrong, or if they are padding the MSRP, or something else I’m missing.

From their breakdown, this is what i get

The .4% lux tax i added to the gov fees.

Yeah, that’s about what I go too. I just wanted to make sure I was using the calculator right

It doesn’t add up, maybe m.f. is not showing on your deal sheet, but deal so bad, just move on.

Definitely am - but I just wanted to make sure I was using the calculator right.

They list the $208.08 luxury tax but it doesn’t appear to be included in either the DAS or the net cap. Otherwise DAS exactly matches the sum of everything else in that section and the monthly payment exactly matches what a lease payment should be for that net cap, residual, and MF.

Monthly Payment = (Depreciation + Rent) / Months
Depreciation = Net Cap - Residual
Depreciation = $51,519.50 - $33,683.00 = $17,836.50
Rent = Months * MF * (Net Cap + Residual)
Rent = 36 * 0.00288 * ($51,519.50 + $33,683.00) = $8,833.80
Monthly Payment = ($17,836.50 + $8,833.80) / 36 = $740.84

I don’t use online calculators and have made some manual calculations. So, here we go.

1st You sales tax is computed as follows …
6.625% x (36 x 740.84 + 500 + 599) = 1839.72 In NJ, you pay tax on the sum of the
payments as well as cap reduction and doc fee. Don’t know why the Acq fee wasn’t
taxed.

2nd Your NJ value-added tax is…
0.4% x 52,019.50 = 208.08

3rd. For some reason, the tax of 208.08 is excluded from the total due at delivery
(4245.89).

4th Your monthly payment is computed as follows…
0.00288 x (51,519.50 + 33,683.00) + (51,519.50 + 33,683.00)/36 = 740.84

Hope this helps.

The problem is your lh calc has .00228 as the mf and the deal sheet has .00288.

That’s not an insignificant amount on that MSRP. Nearly $50/mo difference, that.

Honestly in this environment you’re going to keep getting sticker shock again and again again.

Knowing how the calculator works is important (for structuring offers). But before that you have to identify & target the tiny fraction of makes, models and trims that even make sense to attempt.

Aha! Thank you! I checked that number a million times :joy:
