Why is the Chrysler 300 so popular?

I don’t get it. Why is the Chrysler 300 so popular? The chassis is old, the car is not exactly comfortable nor does it drive well. I guess it is cheap, but it’s not that cheap especially if you account for depreciation and repair.

What are basing this observation on? Sales numbers, what you see on the road?

Is 50k units a year popular? Toyota sells more Camrys than that in just 2 months.

But … RWD fullsize car for $30k? Not much competition for it, regardless of how old it gets.

Because some people think it looks classy without having to pay a luxury brand price, its big and cheap.
Sales recovered after the financial crisis but hover around 50k a year which is not good when compared to where it used to be and where the other sedans in this segment are.
I honestly think its for people that want to look like they have money but actually don’t. Not kidding, can’t count how many times I have seen these cars with an ugly after market grille that doesn’t fit but instead is just position over the front fascia. Or a freaking Bentley logo slapped on. I am so embarrassed when I see it…

this pretty much sums it up

You have an interesting definition of “popular”

Well I don’t own one but I can appreciate the car for what it is. If you have to spend hours a day in a car (like some of us) a full size car like the 300 can be ever so comfortable and has that great smooth ride. This car earns its salt as a freeway cruiser not as a sports car on a mountain road.

Starting prices for a 300 (real world) are not much more than a Civic. Which of those two cars would you rather spend a few hours in every day ?

Agree with MasterBlaster. Plus, parts are cheap, you can get 'em worked on almost anywhere, etc… I got to drive one at a Chrysler event back when they first brought out the Hemi in the 300C. Not a bad car, honestly. Plus, with the discounts on the hood - I think they’re around low $20s new (similar to Charger SXT). That’s a 3.6, 300 hp, can probably tow a little bit, room for 5 adults, huge trunk, mileage isn’t horrible (25+ mpg), engine is reliable, transmission is pretty good, etc…

I think there are a LOT of worse cars you could buy for the same $$. But it depends on need.

It is a great value for what you get… Its image is horrible though hence not selling.

I’m surprised they sell that much. It’s Chrysler’s version of the old Crown Vic with a little more bling. Thing hasn’t changed for the last 8 years.

Walter White’s SRT 300 from breaking bad was a sweet ride.

I imagine the sales reach a consistent 50k units a year based purely on fleet sales. This is just based on the crazy amount of 300’s i’ve seen at various US Hertz/Avis/Enterprise lots over the last 12 months. I think it has to be fleet sales as the only thing keeping Chrysler’s single car being built.

I cannot understand why the heck Chrysler hasn’t used a Jeep platform to create a small and midsize ‘semi-luxury’ crossover type vehicle. I KNOW we are hardly in desperate need for yet more SUV’s but seriously this would be an easy and cheap win to take a bite out of some Buick, Lincoln and maybe even Infiniti sales.

With cars like civic Camry or any subcompact, you know what you are getting yourself into. The 300 is not efficient not sexy not good at anything. As someone else said, it’s like the 2018 crown Vic. I see them all the time at rental car agencies, useless like the Malibu

The crown vic was pretty bullet proof, hence used as cop cars, then cabs. I wouldn’t say that about any FCA product.

I own a 2008 chrysler 300. I rented a few throughout the years. For the money it is a great car. The AWD version rides smooth and like a tank i felt while cruising in snow in 2013 through tysons corner in VA. I love the car. Was going to lease one, just they lease so bad or dealer refuse to apply any discount hence i got a grand cherooke.

Last 8 years? Isn’t it still running on an old Daimler/Chrysler platform?

Last I looked the 300 got 30 mpg on the freeway. That beats most of SUVs. Your comments about being sexy or good at anything just shows your bias.

This is exactly why.

I had a 2013 300c V6 lux. Heated and cooled cupholders!!! That was the most amazing feature. Got 32 mpg from Detroit to Miami and back. Comfortable for long drives. Great Harmon Kardon stereo. Heated/ cooled seats. Really did well in the snow. Very comfortable and roomy for 4 large people. It’s meant to be a comfortable cruiser. I don’t see any mid size sedan as comfy for big people. Not everyone is 5’8 and 180lbs. If I could be comfortable with a 3 series I will get one. A 5 series and E class feel crowded to me. The front seat of my 300 was more comfortable than my Genesis. Genesis back seat was bigger though.

I drove a 2012 once which was a rental. Comfortable ride no doubt, power was also not bad. But as per OP, I dont think they are anything common anymore.
