Why Electric Car Hype Is Overblown

Nope, got this email

This commercial is sponsored by VW…it’s not a VW commercial per se. With that said, you think they’d request the use of an e-Golf or something.

Why would they do it?

Why would they (who is they) do what? Sponsor the commercial? It was part of their settlement agreement.

Oh, I see… And you did understand my question lol

If only I was that good at the Casino :sunglasses:

Go buy Mega Millions tickets now!

They were probably barred from any editorial input or any perception of commercial gain

makes sense.

Interesting post. Could make an electric vehicle somewhat more attractive although not nearly as much as a State rebate. I’m sure the downstate interests will sabotage the rollout somewhat by demanding chargers in places like Pennington Gap And Big Stone Gap. If you want to make the most difference these should all go in NoVa and highway rest stops.

Well, the article has a set of facts but not all of them. Here is what is true:
1- Electric cars do cause pollution through making and charging the battery pack
2- Disposing batteries after life-span does have environmental impacts

However, there are these advantages:
1- Pollution does not happen on the street and is distributed more evenly; for instance a bicycler won’t suffer.
2- When in idle, they don’t use nearly as much power as combustion engines; this is very beneficial in heavy traffic cities.
3- If tied with other renewable energy, like solar, the EV pollution is highly mitigated. For instance, charging at work from solar panels is truly environmentally friendly.
4- Charging overnight evens out electricity consumption and optimizes power generation and consumption.
5- EVs have opened the door for battery research and there might be some breakthrough.
