I am getting a demo Porsche lease tomorrow. My dad is the main, I am the co, the car will be registered to him. I told my sales guy the car would be registered to my dad ahead of time. My sales guy is saying he needs insurance cards with both our names on it, my dad said this isn’t possible. I have leased 4 BMW’s under this same arrangement and have never had my name on the card, but he is insistent. Can anyone provide some insight? He is saying that because I am a co on the lease, my name needs to be on the card, and that its not good enough that I’m on the policy.
Geico would only put me on the insurance card; never had an option to put anyone other than the primary insured.
Get a declaration page where all insured and all the cars are listed, along with the limits. If you’re on the policy, “isn’t good enough” is out of the question. You’re insured, that’s it, show that paperwork to finance and you should be set.
You’re absolutely right! From experience, a salesperson would used that tactic to ask for more money. They’ll use the “look the other way if you pay more” scheme.
Call another Porsche dealership in your area/state and send them the same deal. Maybe they’ll have a better demo on their lot for you. Never hurts to call
I’d assume this dealership is part of a larger group and they just have more policies in place to protect the dealership (even if not completely necessary). We are super picky about insurance at our dealership although I’ve never seen a salesman ask for the people to be on the same policy. As long as the dealer has proof you both are insured you should be fine
Thanks for the advice everyone. Since he has stated that it is the “bank” that will want this, and that seems to not be the case, I’ll just ask him to show me where in the lease contract or finance paperwork this requirement is listed. I assume once he can’t show me, we should be good to go.
