I would actually suggest one of the last Lincoln Town cars
a. Lower center of gravity than any crossover imo
b. High visibility from other drivers that would actually expect someone older driving a car like that
c. Full frame that really protects the “cage”
With all the new technology it’s harder for the older person to adapt to it and even adapted it’s easier to cause distraction and possibly an accident.
Offer them to pay for any Lift they hire for a month and see how they like it, could be cheaper than dealing with accidents.

At reasonable price, Honda systems work well. CR-V in EX-L would be good option.
