Which brands have the best build quality?

Leasing an EQE right now and rather disappointed with the amount of creaks/rattle that I can heard in the cabin. Seems like Mercedes cut a lot of corners for such an expensive vehicles, forgoing solid materials in favor of cheap plastics and “cool” RGB lights.

My EQS is rock solid.

I consider “build quality” to be diff than “fit and finish” (you could solidly construct and assemble cheap plastics, IMHO). My VW Golf Sportwagen has very good fit/finish and feels extremely solid.

I imagine most VWs feel solid but most of the recent products have been criticized for cheap plastics. Although even the A3 has been criticized for that, as well. I have not sat in a GLI or a MK 8 GTI.

Nothing new. I went to check out the GLB and E450 wagon in 2019 or 2020… so much cheap plastic and vinyl given their $50k and $75k price points.

MBtex used to have amazing longevity. It’s been crap for 10+ years

I gotta say, they really do a great job with their quality too  Had a 2001 toyota camary se, and that interior while aestheically not the greatest, it held up for 17 years without any issues. My 2018 bmw 3 series, leather wrapped steering wheel, started cracking at 12k miles. Again, not astheically great, but the quality of the material for durability is awesome

Maybe they were better back then. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: They use way to much rattling plastic now. I’ve had a 15 rav 4 and everything rattles. The SofTex they use is pretty solid

guess nostalgia won in my head haha. Dad has a 2022 rav4 hybrid…I do agree with your sentiment though.

Oh, that’s too bad. I used to think that the only thing that would survive a nuclear apocalypse were cockroaches and MB tex…

Again, I think fit and finish and build quality (and durability) are not interchangeable.

A steering wheel wrapped in plastic will probably not crack in the same way as leather.

Also, maybe the leather on your specific car was just randomly not good? I’ve never had issues w/ leather on the steering wheels (from multiple manufacturers) cracking, even after several yrs (and often being parked outside).

The 1997-2001 Camry, while reliable and durable, couldn’t hold a candle to the previous gen in terms of… anything, but esp in terms of fit and finish, IMHO.

I understand the point of what your saying. I was using quality in the context of durability vs other mays use it in the asthetic aspect, ultimately, just like many things in life, all subjective

it is not about price is it? its more about the model market location, glb is marketed as poor man mercedes gls class, look at GMC and chevy expensive line up they all suck as well even though some can go for 100k+
