When giving quote that was given by another dealership to get price beat or matched, do you give information about which dealership it was given from?
I gave them the quote that I want matched, now they are asking me which dealership gave me the quote. Should I tell them? Why do they want to know? Will they share information with eachother?
The dealer that’s asking can either beat the price or they can’t, the name of the dealer shouldn’t mean a thing to them. I personally wouldn’t share which dealer gave the first quote but that may just be me.
Thanks, I felt the same way.
Agree with above. Don’t provide the name.
price-fixing is illegal and no it is not shared back to the other store. if someone’s asking for the quote or store, it’s because the quote does not look legitimate or management will not something into consideration when there’s no provable dealer they’re actually comparing to.
I’ll provide the numbers but I won’t show an actual deal sheet and I never show the dealer name.
Some will say “well my manager won’t entertain an offer without a name.” That’s nonsense. Either they can do it (and want to) or they can’t.
i have had SO many fake quotes, edited emails, contracts from two years ago etc sent to me. not until i get the deal sheet will i entertain it and it’s never matching the offer sent originally.
I guess that makes sense. But I guess I wonder does it matter? Your deals are so aggressive anyway, would you really go lower even if someone else is willing to on a one off?
constantly fighting bait and switch quotes/ads and errors in quoting. if someone wants to argue over $20, i need proof lol.
Not all her deals are with leasehackrs
Touché. I stand corrected.
My policy still stands but I think perhaps I encounter less resistance because my numbers are plausible. You know, because I don’t shop fake numbers.
I think my S90 lease only happened because they had verbiage on their website that they would match any written offer from another dealer. (Small Volvo dealer but part of larger group). I presented them with the out of town offer and they jumped on it the last day of the year.
Same here. We ask for the name because it’s one of the few bait and switch dealers we know why the price is so low. We don’t try to match them.
As strange as it is, we once got a deal from one shop and a salesperson at another shop we had talked to previously called and said “tell me what your offer is and I’ll beat it.” I honestly didn’t think it mattered where it came from so when he asked, I told him. He then told us later they can’t beat the price. Well, when we went into shop #2 to sign the papers, the SM started giving me grief about how I shopped his offer. Turns out the SM at dealer #1 called the SM at dealer 2 to bitch him out for the discount he gave us. Didn’t affect anything in the end but it was just an awkward situation, even after I explained I never shopped the deal; they called me, not the other way around.
exactly. that’s how i found out san diego dealers were quoting with CVRP

I give them the name and salesman info from any competing dealership who quoted me. I couldn’t care less if they call them to verify/bitch them out. Why should I? I tell them up from I’m going to shop all dealerships and take the lowest price. It’s no big secret. I’m not buying a service where price is not the only issue. I’m buying a depreciating hunk of metal where the only difference between sellers is their lowest price.
I am always 100% honest and upfront with dealerships while negotiating, and I expect the same in return.
How do you tell when a customer is lying?
If you know your product, you know when a deal is too good to be true.
I don’t necessarily ask for a dealer name but I do ask for an offer sheet if they are hell bent on reaching a said price from dealer.
If they don’t show proof, I do not entertain it.
Customers also love to do this just so they can get you to the lowest possible payment, then shop you. (Which is okay, who does not want to save money?!)
Yeah, I caught a dealer lying about their ability to apply for the CVRP. The salesguy said that they’re not allowed to apply for the CVRP, but https://cleanvehiclerebate.org/eng/ev/dealers
Those sneaky San Diego dealers…
