I’m new to the lease game. I’ve found it kind of fun just to practice my negotiation with random salespeople while I am interested in leasing an EV. I set my sights on Chevy first.
Communication is robotic, “Come on in.” They refuse to talk numbers remotely, and if you go in, they magically have sold the exact car you’re interested in but offer a higher trim or utterly different vehicle.
They won’t provide a copy of a Blazer EV’s comical $600/m for a 36-month quote.
I found an Equinox EV RS w/ Super Cruise online. It’s listed at $34,832 (MSPR $47,715), so I think it’s got to be a trap, right?
E-mail the dealership, which is an hour from me. They play the same song and dance. “We only talk numbers in person.”
I reply, " Unless, of course, you can assure me that the out-the-door sales price on that vehicle is exactly as listed: $34,834. I’ll be on my way today to discuss a lease deal for that vehicle for the listed sales price."
Almost never worth doing anything in Florida but the test drive. Doc fee is 999-1199. That alone usually covers shipping from the better dealers in the northeast.
Asking dealers in any state for a quote is a waste of time.
Put together an offer and make it to the dealer.
As with every state, some deapers will be receptive and some won’t. If they aren’t, move on until you find one that is.
This isn’t a FL specific thing. It’s typical dealer behavior.
The only FL specific thing is you’ll see much higher dealer doc fees. Most dealers include the doc fee they charge on their website. Include it in your quote and adjust your target accordingly.
My general target is to get a lease on an Equinox EV w/ Super Cruise for as close, if not under $300/m with MAX first payment DAS. If that’s crazy then I guess I don’t need a new car right now.
The Florida dealer narrative on here is mostly a myth. Like any other deal / dealer, you cast a wide net and hope one agrees to your well-researched terms. Sure, Florida dealers can get away with higher dealer fees - but if they need to move units, they cut their fees and/or give higher discounts to make a deal happen just like any other dealer in any other state.
How do they charge tax inf FL? TEMPA area has country charges too? Is the taxes on the full price or lease price only? I am working with one dealership and sale price is $41k and lease tax is coming to be $1400. Is that correct?
