Whats the better Deal Mazda CX5 GT or VW Tiguan SEL

Hi. I have done about 5 or 6 leases so far and I finally understand how they are put together after getting screwed on a few. Last one I did was for my 2018 Nissan Pathfinder SL and i was able to negotiate 12% off MSRP. I was very happy with that.
I am at my lease end on a VW passat SEL 2015. I am looking to get into something bigger and i have gone to multiple dealers and received multiple quotes on the 2 cars mentioned. All quotes had the RV at 62% and the proper MF for the leases, nothing being inflated Both are being set as a 10/36. I have only got 4 to 6% off MSRP as a negotiated price. Both quotes seem to be around the same $360 to $370 a month rolling everything into the lease only dmv and first month out of pocket. Sales tax is NYS 8.625%. So i am curious which brand is possible to get the better deal on. If i look on edmunds at the Mazda I don’t see that much between the TMV and the MSRP of the car. I was always told to shoot for at least 10% off the MSRP, but is that possible with either of these brands? Should the 10% off dealer discount include any rebates from the manufacture or should this be in addition? I would really appreciate any insite to this so when i go to negotiate and the salesman says no way I cannot go that low I know there is still more room or he is really at the bottom. I am always shown the negative numbers on the screen showing me how much they are taking a loss or that the profit on the car is only $100. which i know is a bunch of B.S. Thanks!

Michael

Hey Michael,

I can’t speak for the VW, I have a 2016 CX-9. The 2018 CX-5 has all the features of the CX-9 and a few new ones like full stop adaptive cruise control, ability to read road signs, heated rear seats, etc. The best part is that it is very quiet to drive.

Over at Edmunds, they are saying the 36/15 rate for a GT is .00062 MF and 59% residual.

Careful, if you end up with the Mazda, you may become a foamer like me.

Thanks! I think I am favouring the Mazda over the vw. Has more features and real leather vs pleather on the vw. Although the tiguan seems to have more cargo space. The lag in acceleration on the vw is slight but I don’t know if it will affect my decision.

Did you lease yours? If so what percentage off the msrp did you wind up settling on?

I love leasing, but I ended up buying mine. I found a slightly used one for 8K off list price and was able to get a Signature edition for the price of a Touring. In the end, the goal is to get the lowest total cost of ownership for a great car.

Here is one on cars.com in GA
with adaptive cruise control. https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/724272252/overview/

I agree. But I like to lease vs buy. I generally like to get a new car every 3 to 4 years. So I have come to the realization I will have a car payment and not be without one I can constantly stay in a new car under warranty. My goal is to see what the best deal I can negotiate off msrp in a lease.
