I am in the market for a new compact luxury SUV (GLC300/X3/Q5) and was hoping to get some advice on what to look for in these cars. My first test drive is today at Mercedes-Manhattan
I am leaning towards leasing, and prefer base models.

XC60 is great as a T5 Momentum with a few packages.
I recently went through the luxury compact SUV search for my girlfriend and we tested out all of the vehicles you listed, as well as the Volvo XC60. Ultimately the XC60 won out by a fairly large margin when it came to the pricing, exterior look, interior quality and surprisingly solid performance from a 4 cylinder turbo. I liked her XC60 enough that I actually just bought myself an XC90, if that gives you an indication on how much we enjoy the brand.
Ultimately it comes down to personal preference, none of the options you listed are bad vehicles. You need to determine what is most important to you in a vehicle and then people on here can likely help steer you better.
They might not be bad vehicles but they’re pretty barebones in base trim.
I missed the part about “base preference”. My comment regarding needing to understand their preferences stands especially true.
Also, consider looking at the RDX as well, the base model is decently equipped.
