What monitors are you running?

Looking to upgrade my 2 27" monitors with a single curved or larger monitor.

What are you guys running that does great with gaming?

Looking to get something that supports 4K with G-Sync/Freesync, and a lower MS. Trying to stay under 1k USD. I have never bought a curved anything and it’s honestly been years since I’ve looked at monitors so I’m a little rusty.

Looking to catch your opinions!

I don’t do gaming, but Costco has good deals on monitors and some are labeled for gaming. I prefer two monitors to one bigger one, but for both brokering and my regular job, I’m often looking at one screen and typing on the other, so I stick with the dual setup. That being said, I have 4 monitors on my desk, just to keep the computers separate and not switch back and forth.

I have been running ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q 34" Gaming Monitor Curved Ultra-Wide 3440x1440 100Hz IPS G-Sync for 2 years now. Not a 4K per se, but IMO for PC gaming, ultrawide > 4K in terms of immersion. Variable refresh rate (either G-Sync or Freesync) is awesome and is a game changer in terms of smoothness across all ranges of FPS, from low to high.

The curve is not too prominent though, if looking dead center can’t really see it. There are some light backlight bleeding in corners, which is the only negative thing about this monitor that I can tell.

Overall very happy with it, and would recommend. Bought it for almost a 1K, now it looks like it can be had for $700.

As others have said, Gaming needs and Productivity needs manifest different “Best” monitor choices.

I do absolutely NO video gaming, but need a large surface to look at inventory lists, incentive sheets, compare Window Stickers, and generally see as much Hyundai-related content at once as possible. 60Hz is certainly faster than any Hyundai is going to ever move across my screen.

From a productivity standpoint, twin 27" 2560x1440 monitors is, in my opinion, in third place only to two alternatives:

  1. Dell U4919DW. This is the exact same physical screen real estate size as twin 2560x1440 27" monitors. You get exactly the same number of pixels as well with 5120x1440 Resolution.
  2. Twin 32" 2560x1440 monitors. This is actually a decrease in pixel density from what you have now. But I swapped my twin 27" setup for twin 32’s instead of going for the Dell. The result is I can sit farther from my screens, in a comfortable position, leveraging a keyboard tray, and see everything comfortably on both screens without zooming.

If you are gaming, as @RustyDaemon said, you probably want to prioritize a faster refresh rate over a higher resolution. 4K is largely overrated in anything smaller than ~49" because you’ll have to zoom or squint to see smaller print on the screen from a comfortable sitting distance.

As the resident ‘basement gamer’, few questions for the best answer. What games do you play, will you be doing productivity. What do you cherish most, colors, or performance.

My current rig

Alienware 24inch 240hz - always go for higher refresh rate for FPS gaming. For rpg, mmo, turn based, go for ultrawide over refresh rate.

LG 34’ Ultrawide 100hz - good all a rounder for productivity, colors, and refresh rate makes every action silky smooth. Even just moving your cursor on 100hz + is just visually more appealing.

Recommendations, if playing TBG, MMO basically anything except FPS or reaction based games, go for a 100+ hz ultrawide, curved or non curved depends on preference for immersion and desk space / setup.

If playing high frame rate FPS games, then I recommend a 240hz 27 or 24inch, and a second lower refresh rate smaller ultrawide for productivity, and all usage cases.

If for office work, curved ultrawide is something my friends genuinely like, I’ve heard very good things about Samsung and LG offerings.

You forgot to put “Hershey” there. I doubt Sina has time for playing games :slightly_smiling_face:

I use a 43” Samsung 4K tv that I got for BF in 2019 as my work at home monitor. It does 60hz and has a lot of real estate. I’m a software developer. My wife got a 35” lg 3440x1440@85hz from Costco for $399 couple of weeks ago. It’s curved and looks amazing, the fonts are bigger, but not as much real estate, but she likes it because she can read the fonts, and don’t have to look up and down.

These are the specific monitors I’m using:
Personal computer - 2 24" LGs (can’t beat the price on these): https://www.costco.com/lg-24"-class-fhd-monitor.product.100469618.html

The same monitor is $200 at Best Buy (I got one open-box there for the same price as Costco in mid-March), and the monitors are identical, just different model numbers for Costco vs. elsewhere.

Work: 2 23" Dell P2319h monitors

It looks like the 24" one is less expensive. I really like the super-thin bezel and the panel is a little thinner than the LGs, plus there’s a hole in the stand to help with cord management, so these are also great choices. I was supplied these by work, though, so if I had to buy them myself, I probably would have gotten something a little less expensive.

It’s mildly implied Ursus.

Not for games (low refresh, VA panel) but I’ve been happy with my ThinkVision T34w-20 34-inch Curved 21:9 Ultrawide Monitor with USB Type-C. Upgraded from dual Dell 24" and 3440 x 1440 works well for general internet, spreadsheets, IT usage. Purchased via perks at work for ~$350 rather than $480 list.
