What luxury SUV to get ( purchase) for around 42k before tax

Hello all,
Please allow me to post and get some suggestions from this community for a mid size Luxury SUV that I can purchase for around 42k, after all discounts. With tax would be around 46k.
Are their any aggressive deals on any decently equipped cars?
I am getting QX60, 57k for 48k before tax, and XT5, premium luxury 57k for 47k.

Thanks a lot in advance!

What? Why? Are you open to preowned/CPO?

Maybe you should start by asking which luxury SUVs are better to purchase than lease.

Telluride comes to mind. They lease like crap and are better purchased.

That being said, I won’t question your decision to purchase in this segment as I’m sure you’ve already considered the average depreciation curve of anything considered a luxury product and have come to the conclusion that you can live with that.

Palisades or telluride would be good. Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 2 would be a strong contender and well below 42k price with rebates and discounts.

Tellurides also selling for over MSRP. My local dealer marking up over 2k. Never thought I’d see the day people paying over sticker on a Kia.

What about an MDX? CX-9 or a Pilot or Passport? There is a new Toyota Highlander coming out.

MDX is luxury, CX-9 is near lux, Piliot, Passport and Highlander are mainstream,

The 1st 2 choices OP mentioned will depreciate heavily. The Hondas don’t lease as well, but buying could be good.

can’t believe we’re taking about Kia in the same sentence as “luxury” … it’s a nice car and all but what is Mercedes then? Luxury Plus? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Don’t be fooled by these inflated MSRP and the inflated discounts they are masquerading.

None of those cars are worth anything close to MSRP. Whether they are worth the selling price is also very questionable

Agreed. If I am buying a luxury SUV it’s definitely not going to to be from Cadillac or Infiniti…or any German company. Really I’d only consider buying from Acura or Lexus and right now the MDX is too outdated to be very appealing to me (coming from a current MDX lessee).

If I was buying I’d look at new loaded trims from
Non-luxury brands . Cost to repair most luxury SUVs is much higher than mainstream brands. While that doesn’t matter when leasing. It’s a huge consideration of buying.

Great point!
What Luxury SUV’s are better purchased than leased?

I always lease. But the decision to purchase comes from tax/depreciation stand point, numbers work better that way!

Last time I checked the king of resale values was the Lexus RX

You could also consider a CPO LX if it’s already taken a big depreciation hit

If you are willing to up your budget slightly, you can get the 2019 RX 350 for around 46K before tax (MSRP - 54,704) - Navigation, 360 parking cameras etc… Been quoted around the price from several dealerships and if you wait till end of the year, the deal may be even better.

Every time I take in an RX on trade, it is always worth more than a similar luxury SUV with the same miles even if it is in worse shape. Plus they are extremely easy to resell as pre-owned.

If you want a new SUV at that price range, nothing is better than a palisade or telluride right now.

If you insist on buying, agree Lexus RX, maybe MDX or Highlander/Rav4/Pilot. RX is the best for resale - you cannot escape the depreciation curve but manage it better with likely lower maint and part costs down the road

Last year I sold a 12 year old RX and 13 yr old Highlander on Craiglist and it was crazy the amount of inquiries I had for both.

I assume you’re purchasing this as a business asset and looking for an SUV for the bonus depreciation write off up front, yes?

Yes, that is correct.

Make sure you verify gross vehicle weight. Not all SUVs will qualify.
