The charge flap on my 530e sucks. It is now stuck and when I pulled on the manual release under the hood, that disconnected with little effort and the flap didn’t open.
I’m wondering if that’s a covered repair by the dealership during lease or if I should try and find a local mechanic who can do this cheaply.
Yea, no different than most anything else that breaks on a car while it’s still under warranty, just schedule an appt at your local BMW dealer to get it checked out.
They’ll either fix it under warranty or call you first and let you know why it isn’t covered (and what they will charge). At that point you either push back and try to get it covered, just let them fix it, or take it somewhere else.
Thanks I will go and fight the warranty battle. Evidently this janky batter flap is not a quick fix.
Do either of you know how many maintenance visits someone can do under a lease? I may as well go ask them to look it all over when there. Surprisingly I don’t see this in the contract.
Warranty bro, unlimited, if it’s a legit issue and replicable (which it sounds like it is), they’ll 1000% cover it if you’re in warranty and you’ll have no hassle.
I assure you the dealer will get paid for trying to work the issue by BMW so don’t sweat it at all, go in and enjoy the branded bottle water and dealership coffee.
It’s not a battle but don’t call it a maintenance visit. Repairs covered under warranty not = maintenance. You’ll just create more confusion and possibly pushback
Maintenance is the scheduled replacement of consumables such as oil, filters, etc.
Being in a lease has nothing to do with the car’s warranty so there’s not going to be anything related in your contract. Not surprising at all.
And the service department doesn’t know and doesn’t care whether your car is leased, financed, or you own it outright. They will treat you the same.
If something breaks every week for the duration of your lease then you can take it in every week for the next 3 years or whenever to get it fixed. As max and Hershey mentioned this is a warranty repair, not regular maintenance, there’s no limit.
Evidently fixing the charging flap requires ordering parts and taking a service loaner. I didn’t realize they pay for Ubers and everything.
But after I went to pick up some food, I noticed the back bumper has a big dent so either someone hit the car in the lot or I was blinded by the sun when I initialed that the car had no damage. Really fun times. FML.
Paint is gone. There is also a bumper sticker on this loaner which is a little weird I think. I’m considering slapping another bumper sticker on and saying that’s how it came and hoping they don’t create an issue. I’m more convinced that I picked it up this way and they didn’t mark it off on the sheet before giving it which sucks.
Right but what can I do here short of hiding it? Tell them it came that way and hope a dealership believes me? I’m thinking to cover it with a sticker or to dab a little paint on the dent and then throw dirt on it. Honestly I can’t come up with a solution that is remotely even good here.
I’m hoping for better loaner programs sooner than later. Probably gonna have to build up to triple digit on hand inventory as the average before they do that though.
Right now our average partner store is hovering around 25-35 uncommitted new units on hand.
