VW Recall : Engine Cover

Hi All:

Was wondering if anyone has experience with recalls. Volkswagen has a recall for the engine cover and my car is in the shop to get it removed. The service agent said it will be completely removed and now the car will be much louder, which is awful and likely will not be enjoyable to drive.

Is this grounds for turning in the vehicle since it is “not the vehicle that was leased”? Just putting this out there.

I’m sure there are people here who will say “would you rather your car blow-up”? Obviously not, that’s why it’s already in the shop to be taken care of. I’m just curious if its worth complaining to VW about.

Thank you!

Removing the engine cover will not make the engine louder. More and more cars are removing them as cost cutting features.

On its face, this seems like one of the silliest recalls in recent memory, but I can see why VW would want to minimize any and all fire risk. With that said, I can’t imagine seeing a large increase in engine noise resulting from removing the plastic engine cover with a little bit of fabric on the underside. And no, I can’t imagine VW would take a car back because of something like this.

The vehicle likely will be louder. A lot of engineering goes into that piece of plastic to reduce NVH (noise, vibration, harshness). It won’t be substantial, but it will be louder.

No, you won’t be able to have VW buy your car back for this recall. My assumption is they will be creating a new engine cover and replacing the existing once they figure it out

I have a 2025 Atlas, you can buy another engine cover thats not recalled from FCP Euro. Part # VW Engine Cover - Genuine VW 06Q103925N

Its a confirmed direct fit, im waiting on mine to get here. But i came across this on one of the facebook VW atlas groups
