Volvo XC90 plugin hybrid T8. 24 month lease expiring on December. Advice needed

2 years back I took lease of Volvo XC90 Plugin hybrid T8. Used MSD also.

Location: California, San Francisco

This 2025 December , this lease of 24 months lease is expiring. Screenshot of numbers attached.

I am not sure these numbers were good or bad. But that time, this was the best number I received in Northern California. So, I went ahead with it as I needed car that time.

Ran 14000 miles only. Comfort wise, I loved the car and it served the purpose. Mostly driven daily city limits and used electric more.

What are my options. Should I return the car and go with new lease or buy this car? I am open to both.

Please pour in your suggestions and advice.

If you’re in a position to do something in the next week, I’d work with a broker to find a 25.5 XC90 T8 and pull-ahead your current (:face_vomiting:) lease before the EV tax credit related incentives … change.

Talk to @Benedetto @AutoCompanion @GCauto and check the Marketplace

I would NOT buy out your current lease. If you want a different brand, you have two months to test drive alternatives and decide. Maybe @IAC_Scott can put you in an X5e for this payment.

Thank you. I will reach out to them. Hope they serve norCal

I didn’t know that my lease was so bad numbers.

Do you think, Volvo won’t adjust prices after September to offset EV credit.

Any broker that serves CA can get you a car. Don’t be afraid to have one shipped to save money, you should be able to shave quite a bit off that payment.

I have zero inside knowledge and nobody knows what next months programs will be, but in your shoes I’d be worried that Vovlo pulls the big incentives in T8s and EVs for Q4 just to see how things shake out. They have already made big adjustments to production (what-and-where), even if they throw Costco at it I wouldn’t bank on strong leases until they are drowning in ancient relics (like the one I’m currently leasing) again.

Take advantage of Volvo’s lease pull-ahead program which will waive your remaining 2 payment and turn-in fee. DO it before September 30 to get the $7500 tax credit though.

Looks like current deals monthly payment are near or more to the one I am paying.. unsure whether it is due to NorCal location or due to Volvo brand.

This is what I saw when I leased car 2 years back as well. Even though lease numbers are bad, in reality that is what California has now

Why would you limit yourself to where the deals aren’t as good?

pull ahead into an ex90. won’t get good pricing in your region on t8s.

Finish your lease, return it if no equity and start a new lease with no strings attached.

I am seeing some ads showing don’t return lease and they will buy the car. Should I try that ? What is the best site to find equity of the car ,?

concern is to ship it from East cost to West Coast without any damage

I’ve shipped multiple cars (E->W, W->E, MW->W) with zero issues. If you’re concerned about the shipping, @Benedetto is both an auto and freight broker and ensures the drivers aren’t meth heads and the trucks/drivers are properly licensed and insured should anything go wrong.

It would be one thing to ship a car to save a few bucks, it’s always worked out to save me thousands.

I checked . Most sites showing 50k. My payoff amount is 57k. That means no equity.

Looks like Volvo xc90 don’t have great deals after EV credit ended. Which are the other makes I should consider now as backup options.

I like PHEV. Need 3 row. Is it Lexus 550 only option for me ?

Are you open to non hybrid? If so, Infiniti QX60 leases are hard to beat right now in terms of 3 row non EVs.

If you’re open to full EV, the EV9 (and to slightly lessor degree Ioniq 9) have been decent in recent months, so could monitor over next couple months.

Lexuses typically lease very poorly.

One presumes that, w/o any type of rebate, many/most PHEVs will also lease poorly.

I recommend you pursue Signed Deals and Tips and the Marketplace to see what might be leasing well.

I have more daily commute short distance and sometime long trip. Hence prefer PHEV. Loved Volvo xc90 PHEV because of this

Yea, will watch . 2 years back this group helped me to decide Volvo xc90. Will see what comes out better. If PHEV sales are not happening, may be companies reduce prices or give incentives

Do you need a 3 row? Some PHEVs will get better by end of the year. You can also always ask Volvo to extend a couple of months.

There will always be options….

You can, but they won’t. One month max. Also, there is still $7,500 “EV” rebate on Volvo, but the programs are not great.

Yea but I suspect the XC90 and 60 programs will improve. They’re always cyclical. By how much and when, idk….

In any case, OP should have options within next couple of months, or they can decide to consider something outside of PHEV..

I’ll use the QX60 again. It may not be the PHEV they prefer, but they’ll save thousands over the course of the lease versus the Volvo options right now which will more than offset offset any fuel savings…
