Volvo XC40 lease help (and lease quote example)

Hi all,

I just got a nice new job, but I have to commute pretty far. I’m pretty set on leasing a XC40. The only problem is that I got quoted a DISGUSTING amount - over $700/mo for a 42k MSRP. He also added on an option that he claimed was mandatory (lol). You can see the quote below.

All else equal, I built the exact same car on the Volvo website and it says $469/mo leasehackr calculator gives me the same figure as well.

Should I keep calling other dealers to see if they can get to that 469? Should I try to get them lower? Should I wait? Should I give up and keep commuting in my dinky 230k mi 2005 Accord? Help!!!

I couldn’t see what state you’re in? Depending where you are affects how competitive certain brands are in your area. For $700 p/m though you should be able to get an XC60 or XC90. Have you test driven a few cars and made a final decision with the XC40? Lots of good cars in that segment including Stelvio, X1, GLA/GLC, etc. Stelvio is very popular here as it has good driving characteristics and can be gotten cheaply.

If you’re looking for the best deal and want to find it yourself have a search in the forum for comparable cars/trims/MSRPs in your area, or look further out at dealers who have better deals. If you’re short on time try one of the many brokers that have a presence here and work in your area.

I’m fairly certain Volvo requires that these are sold at MSRP. Look elsewhere because you aren’t going to get a good deal on one.

If u drive many miles, and at $700 why not look in to subscription which will also include ur insurance and allow 15k miles ?

Make sure your commute mileage is going to be well under 36k miles for 36 before signing that Volvo lease or any other 12k lease.

Volvo with 0.00 dealer discount? LOL

Have you looked into leasing a Tiguan? It is on special this month…
Do the Tiguan and get 15k miles for peace of mind if you are commuting long distances

Have you concerned Volvos new subscription program? https://www.volvocars.com/us/build/suv/xc40#r-design%20subscription R-line (price includes insurance) and you can change the car every year, or https://www.volvocars.com/us/build/suv/xc40#momentum%20subscription both have 15,000 mile allowance per year.

Only 2 year subscription, the R-line starts at 750, and the momentum starts at 650. For me its kinda making sense, as I am young my insurance payment + car comes out more than 650

that is if you can hold out until early 2019 :stuck_out_tongue:

Yea I was going to be surprised if dealers were discounting these and undercutting the subscription plan. Shop a few more dealers and see if they all hold the line.

That dealer is gouging because the car is in huge demand and there is virtually no supply. At least that’s true on the west coast. You’ll pay through the nose most anywhere, I suspect. The Care By Volvo (CBV) subscription is decent for a 2 year deal, as it includes insurance, and brakes/rotors for 24 mo/30,000 miles. Scheduled maintenance is included for 36 mo/36,000 miles on all Volvos as well. Contact CBV and see if they have something they can offer up more quickly, and maybe you’ll get something in 2 months. A well-equipped T5 AWD Momentum is $650 (or $659 with metallic paint) + tax or a loaded T5 AWD R-Design is $750/759 + tax. They all come equipped the same way.

You can get an XC90 for that price

Somebody also posted Sante Fe Sport Ultimate with tech for 330 a month. That’s also 43k MSRP. For half price I would say to Volvo they can keep their XC40 and sound of music commercial…

What’s with the limited inventory on the XC40? Is it because it came out mid-year or because they intend on keeping it for the subscription service?

Neither. They misjudged the demand for the car worldwide. The XC40 will be built at another factory after the first of the year to catch up to demand.

Its a really nice car and looks great at night but lots of road noise.

Maybe something to work with on T4…

What MF and residual are they using? I’d question that excess wear charge as well if you don’t actually want it - that shouldn’t be required.

You’re not going to get anything off MSRP until they catch up production, but you should be able to get close to base MF at least. If you don’t care about color/packages you’ll also have more options.

I got a T5 momentum, 42k msrp, 36m/10k Miles in June for $500 with tax in California. Love it. I agree the road noise is a little high, but it’s a great car and is perfect for me. I also looked at the Q3 and X3 but preferred the XC40. It wasn’t a Leasehackr level deal but I thought it was fair for a very specific color/options compared to waiting months which my old car wasn’t going to let me do.

Might be even later than early 2019. I placed a subscription order back in May 2018 and when I talked to the dealership I was supposed to take delivery from in July 2018 they said my XC40 wasn’t even on the delivery calendar, which went through March 2019. I ended up cancelling.

This is a horrible deal. I have seen lease deals for half that quote at the same MSRP. Hell, that’s how much I pay for my fully loaded XC90 T6. Run, don’t walk from this.

And I swear to me, the XC40 looks so much like the Mazda CX-5
