Volvo said I owe $0 for early lease return, then billed me over $2k

I returned my 2024 Volvo S60 about 80 days before the lease ended. Before returning it, I contacted VCFS and received a callback. The rep told me that because of the low mileage, the car value exceeded the payoff amount. (Around $5000 difference). They specifically said that I would owe nothing further and could return it to a dealership.

I return it to Volvo, then received over $2000 bill:

  • Excess wear and use: $557.07
  • Remaining payments: $1047.63
  • Turn-in fee: $498.38

The invoice shows no credits.

I know returning a lease early doesn’t automatically cancel the remaining payments. My issue is that VCFS explicitly told me there would be no remaining balance.

I am also questioning the wear charges. I have photos taken at the dealership right before returning the car. Nothing looks wrong to me.

This was my 3rd volvo lease return, and I still lease an XC90, my 4th Volvo. I have never had this happen before. I was planning on another Volvo, but this is making me reconsider.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? Is it possible to get the charges corrected or waived?

And there is no remaining balance.

That’s why you should’ve ordered pre-return inspection through Volvo portal.

Those remaining payments and turn in fee are your contractual obligations. Ask for the details of wear and tear and request waiver . You might get it.

If you called to get volvo to early term the car, it looks like it was just grounded instead. Recommend you call back and mention this to the vcfs rep you spoke with. Could just be a misunderstanding on their or the dealer’s part. Both parties had to be aware that this was being done as an early term. Looks like they were not.

That makes sense. So, I should call VCFS first and ask them to check whether the car was processed as an early termination or just grounded as a regular return, and then go from there?

Should have gotten the inspection :smiling_face_with_tear:

I think the remaining payments and turn in fee should be waived based on what I have talked with the rep. But the wear and tear.. I don’t agree, but if it is necessary to pay, I would pay

I don’t think you have anything to lose, so yeah.

Nothing in writing stating anything that was discussed correct? Did they also say they would waive wear and tear?

The best way to communicate with them is through secure messages from your account. From my experience, you get correct answers and have everything in writing.
