I currently have a Volvo lease that ends this year. I went to a Mazda dealer that also has a Volvo dealer within their family. The salesman said that I can use Volvo pull ahead if I lease a Mazda from them.
Has anyone done this before? The Volvo terms are pretty clear that you have to lease another Volvo, but the salesman seemed very confident, so I’m not sure if it’s because they also have a Volvo dealer..
Either he/she doesn’t know their terminology, or they are purposely trying to deceive you. I don’t see how you “pull ahead” your lease on a Volvo but your new lease is a Mazda. All they are going to do is take your Volvo on trade then if there is any negative equity, “pull” it into your new Mazda lease.
The term “pull ahead” is used a lot and most of the time in these situations it is not a “pull ahead.”
They can’t even do this. The only way you can sell a Volvo lease to a 3rd party is if you buy it from Volvo first (and pay sales tax), wait for the title, and then sell it since it’s your property at that point.
Even Volvo dealers can’t buy Volvo leases without a new Volvo being purchased/leased.
I wonder if maybe the guy at Mazda is even aware of this? You know how it goes…usual talking point, “don’t worry, we can take care of the Volvo for you” type deal.
For what it’s worth, this type of broad concept does apply for other manufacturers.
E.g. I believe with some manufacturers who don’t allow 3p buyouts, this workaround does work (selling to a dealer group who at has at least one store if said manufacturer), however I can’t imagine how that applies here given:
Volvo also requires dealer buyout is paired with purchasing/leasing a new Volvo
The whole concept of pull ahead is to get into a new Volvo
The only other thing I can think of is if he meant something along the lines that they will cover my last few months payments in the Volvo. But I’m not sure how it would work with me turning over the car early to the dealer.
He doesn’t know. I’ve heard the same before and had to educate salespeople, only for them to come back and say “sorry, can’t do” after talking to their bosses.
The Mazda dealer is not going to “cover” your last few payments. It will get rolled over into your new deal. Assuming that’s what they planned on doing with your Volvo. They aren’t a charity operation.
