Does anyone have any first-hand experience with the Volvo Overseas Delivery program? My lease expires in April of next year and am thinking of placing an order for an XC-90. Found this program on the Volvo website and it seems too good to be true.
FWIW I believe they pay for 2 RT flights (you + partner) and 2 nights of hotels. Any longer of a stay, you’ll need to pay for your own accommodations/experiences/travels.
I know BMW and Mercedes did this, especially for higher MSRP cars, something to do with reduced import taxes if you drove the vehicle around Europe a certain period of time. BMW stopped that program after Covid. It used to be called BMW European delivery.
Personally I like controlling my own travel itinerary, so I’d probably go through a broker and order a reduced price and use the savings instead to book my own trips. But if you’re really into Volvos or Sweden could be really interesting too.
I might have missed something on the website - do they require an MSRP purchase to participate? Can I not order a Volvo through one of the dealers/brokers on LH with a discount and still participate in the overseas delivery program? All I saw in the requirements is a $3,000 non-refundable deposit that gets applied to the purchase of the vehicle when it is ready.
This Reddit thread has a Volvo dealer who says there’s a 5% discount off MSRP if you use the Overseas Delivery Program.
Also confusing info on whether you can lease em or not.
Thank you, appreciate the info.
@thevolvoguy any insights on this? Have you had any customers participate in this program?
Used it for a '22 XC90 T8 w Polestar. Find a dealer who knows how to navigate the process, there’s a lot more paperwork, and easier to finance via Volvo and/or Penfed.
When we bought our Volvo it was 10% off MSRP. They will hook you up with transfer to/from the Landvetter airport, hotel, guided tour of the factory, VIP handover of the car, two weeks of insurance included and can be extended at a reasonable rate. You can drive the car all over EU, get a cool red plate that’s very unusual in Sweden (people will take pictures and ask you about it). Well worth the experience if you’re buying a new Volvo.
It took about a month for the car to show up at the dealer after we dropped it off in Gothenburg.
I looked into this before and you can’t lease the car through overseas delivery. It has to be paid for in cash or financed.
