Volvo lease end advice?

Hi everyone,

I know that Volvo doesn’t allow 3rd party buyouts, but I’m wondering if anyone has had success selling a Volvo that’s coming off lease.

Leased a 2020 XC90 during the pandemic for what was a great deal - cheaper than new XC40s and 60s are being leased now. Lease ends in a few months, we’re way under mileage (I realize now we only need 3/10, not 3/12 leases since we’re barely at 24k in almost 3 years), and it looks like there’s about a $5-10k delta between my buyout price and what dealers are selling similar year/mileage/trim nationwide.

As I understand, I have 2 obvious options - do I have a third?

  1. Buy it out
  2. Turn it into any Volvo dealer and walk away
  3. Somehow turn the delta between buyout price and current selling price (and yes I understand dealers have to take their cut, and also that sales tax hits at 8% if I buy it out) into some money?

Wonder if anyone has had experience with the 3rd way and any advice. I realize Volvo is harder than other brands that allow 3rd party buyouts, but just thought this would be the right forum to ask for advice from.

(I have already secured a new lease going forward from a different brand, so I’m not interested in “trading it in and leasing a new Volvo”)

Cant pull any equity out of it unless you’re getting another Vo.

That said, it may not be worth anything because it was a great deal on the montly (i.e. high residual etc…)

Shoot the VIN, Miles, and payoff over. I’ll tell ya.

Since you didn’t put a state, see if @Anthony_Lopez can take it.

I just went through this and going through Volvo is best possible option. There really is no 3rd magic way. If one of the guys here can do something, I’d jump on it.

I was lucky I had a low pay off, a model they wanted and a dealer willing to work a deal, so I was really able to capitalize.

Yep, the RV on this XC90 is in the 60s

I may have a similar situation with two S90 Inscription models, both of which are way under miles. One of them is a new car really with the exception of it being a 2020. I am trying to see if I can get any leverage on car from a Volvo dealer. The payoffs on them are each 38K.

Low payments and low miles doesnt result in the equities my friends

Of course I know that. I knew the end of lease price and I have not bought car at the end in probably 20 yrs. The lease itself was sharp. I knew thats how Volvo does it. Those cars will sell quickly once they get them, if I dont find a buyer first.
