Volvo excess wear and tear coverage. Should I buy it?

Dealer today said that they sell some kind of exceeds wear and tear coverage for leases that costs about 1249$ and covers dents, windshield breaks and any other interior damage at the end of the lease. He said almost 70% of people that lease cars buy it and a typical Volvo lease return has charges any where from 2k-5k for excess wear.
Seems like a bunch of sales crap. They said they can charge 1049$ if I sign it today’s and add 40$ more to my monthly payment.
Do people usually get this kind of coverage from dealers? Any suggestions?
This is my first lease so don’t know how the charges are typically at the end of lease

I bought tire and wheel warranty with my last lease. Cost an additional $25 a month. Didn’t use it …with my next lease I think I was so annoying with the sales person that they didn’t even bother to bring me to the guy who offers all those bells and whistles so I ended up not taking any wear and tear warranty.

Windshield breaks are covered through insurance
Interior damage? Like?
Dents? They will usually let those go if you get into another lease
Does it include tire and wheels?

$2.5k to $5k wear and tear? That’s complete BS, if you don’t park on the street and don’t trash your cars, i’d buy exactly none of it.

also worth noting typically wear and tear is like under $1000 so most likely dealer making extra profit, dealer also lying about excess wear as well haha, the leasing company typically lets you get away with scratches/dents less than 4 inches and other normal wear , meaning they expect normal wear and tear after a lease, would be a good idea to check what type of conditions are expected at lease turn in, also if you go back with the same manufacturer they usually waive x amount of damages, so unless you have a pickup truck for work or drive in the city with low profile tires it’s kind of useless imo.

My insurance covered my windshield breaks at turn in - I have a $0 comp deductible… I had some rim rash that they were trying to charge me for, but the dealer said it was all good when I turned it in so they didn’t end up charging me for it… If it’s huge stuff, that’s why you have insurance, I keep $250 deductivle for accidents. Rather have that, then pay $1250. Only thing you might want to REALLY make sure of is that GAP is included, which it was on our leased Volvo’s. (and other cars, but I am aware that sometimes it isn’t included in Toyota leases)

Is it a 24 month lease? Because if it’s a 36 then they are really doing a number on you. Although by now you should be sold on steering clear.

It’s actually 33$ on 36 months lease. I’m not going to take it now

You should also find out what, if any, wear and tear allowance is provided by the captive/bank that’s financing the lease.

As an example, the Mazda I’m leasing comes with a $1000 allowance through Chase.

Does it cover brake pads?
S90/XC90 kills brake pads fast, 20k miles and you need a new set of rear brakes.

I bought mine for $750 to cover my S90 for 36 Months
I don’t usually buy these insurances when leasing but $750 seemed pretty reasonable for a $59K car because the BMW I leased prior to this one had an asking lease coverage of $1,650 which I ended up not getting.
I had a few scratches and dings here and there when turning in my BMW lease which I did not get charged at all.
Still needed that peace of mind for my S90.

Highly doubt it. Regular maintenance items are not considered to be “Wear and Tear”. If that were the case, wouldn’t everyone be purchasing the wonderful coverage to be exempt from getting new tires??

OP - I don’t purchase any of the additional overages. Most are a joke, unless you don’t take care of your vehicles. I laugh every time they try to sell my on the interior or exterior protectant. :roll_eyes:

To clarify some do cover tires at turn in. That being said if you need new tires before hand for safety reasons you’re out of luck.

Either way i’d pass. I paid 600 for it on a 65k Yukon and still feel like I got swindled! That was for 7k coverage/1k per incident.

ford 5k protection covers tires as well, like I stated in my post earlier, for pickup trucks, cars with low profile tires, and if you don’t really take care of your vehicle/park it in the city then I think the excess wear isn’t such a bad idea, with that being said you should be paying max $600-700 for this, anything above that is usually dealer profit.

FWIW - my Volvo dealership said the Volvo protection covers worn tires at turn in. I still didn’t elect to get it for the exact reason you mentioned, if my tires are low to the point where it’s an issue I’d gladly pay to replace them for my family’s safety. I’m not going to ride on bald tires for 3 months just so Volvo’s protection plan can kick in and cover at turn in.

BMW’s F&I guy stated that their coverage does not cover worn tires, but the guy doing my paperwork said I should still get it “just in case I spilled a box of nails in my driveway and needed to replace all 4 tires near the end of my lease”. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: I quickly and kindly declined.

nobody is telling you to put your family at risk but you also dont have to buy new tires regardless of protection package or not, used tires with decent tread would be the best bet, trick here is that with the protection plan you can always take them off put the bald tires back on and sell those used tires to recoup money, is it worth the time? well that’s completely on you but in the idea of saving money that’s the basis behind turning in a vehicle with bald tires.
