Volvo C40, MB GLA or similar

Hey not the op but I found this thread looking at MB GLC Coupe rates too and saw you didn’t advise it.
I like the Audi Q5 you recommended actually but how do they hold up with maintenance vs Mercedes? Any idea on their rates now? Also wondering why did you mention earlier Mercedes isn’t good to buy right now, is it this model specifically or across the board? I was also interested in the GLA 250

Programs are trash for almost all ICEV across BMW, Mercedes and Audi.

You can look at their EVs, you can look at other brands such as Volvos or you can buy the GLA to own for 4-5 year cycles as opposed to leasing every 3.

Thank you - I am open to financing too if any of the options have better deals on those. I am interested in Volvos too specifically the C40 design but wasn’t sure about a fully electric vehicle.

To be honest I have an old car (2007) I can use for free and I don’t drive much so I have been thinking about this for a while but I drive with my pets mainly and the old car is not as safe as something more modern. However as I keep waiting the rates just seem to be going up and never really got to better time to buy and been about a year since I started casually looking.

I’m kinda interested in this after seeing the price but the 10k is from costco I think but is it from having a membership or some kind of voucher that I had to redeem prior?

MB programs are trash, as Max said. You’ll be paying ~$600 on a Q5.

$7,500 - EV Tax Credit
$1,000 Costco
$1,500 loyalty or some sort of Volvo bonus cash - you’ll need to ask the broke

You “Must be a member by October 31, 2023.” to be eligible for the Costco bonus cash. You can still redeem it on the website.

The extra $500 is A-Plan or Affinity.

Thanks for both replies.

I think 600 is not so bad either right? Vs 1200 for similar MSRP that OP posted for the GLC.

The 1k costco - my mom had a membership already but car will be under my name. Can I use hers?

I had to check out the EV tax credit. It looks like this year I overpaid on my taxes and I am over the income bracket too so not sure I would qualify for this. I probably won’t be over the bracket next year.
They do not allow the “transfer tax credit directly to dealership to mark it off directly off the price” yet right? I saw that is coming for 2024 but if it kicked in already that would be great.

After thinking about this more maybe I’m not understanding correctly. It says it reduces the tax liability and no overage is refunded. So I assume if I overpaid the 7500 is discarded. But if this is correct then the only way anyone can utilize the tax credit is if they underpay their taxes on purpose?

Obviously paying $1,200 a month on a car that has a 64k MSRP is terrible. That is common sense to a normal person, not to pay that or realize that it is a bad deal. Pay $600 on a car with an MSRP of $52k is pretty decent yes. But, I wouldn’t pay $600 for a smaller VW Tiguan with an Audi badge on it. BMW’s X3 are better, in my option, but it’s your money.

The Costco Volvo program website stays this:
Note: The member who is present at the dealership must match the name on the certificate to redeem incentive. Certificate is not transferable.

So in theory, if your mom went to the dealer with you, I guess it should work. I am not a Volvo specialist, haha.

Yes, they do not allow the "“transfer tax credit directly to dealership to mark it off directly off the price” yet. But, that isn’t confirmed yet and it’s something they would like to do.

I’m not sure about the second paragraph - I don’t really have knowledge on the tax credit, unfortunately. But, if you overpaid, the amount the $7,500 covers is it. Ex: Paid 6k in taxes - $7,500 tax credit - Only applies to that $6k and the $1.5k will go back to the government, or whoever.

Thanks I’ll check it out some more. I realized there is an additional expense of the charging port and everything so I need to add it all up.

Thanks, appreciate it buddy
