Volvo air suspension warranty claim

Long story short:

  • I lease a demo unit with ~1k miles 2024 Volvo XC90 out of state.
  • A few days ago “suspension service required” light popped up and went away but I decided to take it.
  • The technician found water in the air suspension control unit area, upon further inspection they found “evidence of body work done around rare bumper.
  • They removed water, fixed incorrectly installed drain hose and wanted to replace control unit, but Volvo denied claim citing “damage” and incorrect repairs.
  • Original dealer went radio silent after I asked for info and did not give me anything meangful. Carfax is clean.
  • Control unit was not replaced but the car is fine now, so I don’t care much.

My point is be careful with demo units, they might have undisclosed damage. I kind of trusted the process, but next time will pay a bit more attention. I still can escalate to Volvo corporate if I need to, but too lazy for now.

Oh Yeah GIF

Even new units could have this depending on state disclosure rules and repair cost.

True, but I think he might be inferring that a demo is more likely to have been damaged, hooned and/or beat up more than a “new” unit would be in general.

Or flooded.

Respectfully, this is because you bought from a dealer that only cares about throughput - you’re just a number to them.

No question about it. To be fair they are also just number to me in most cases. Either it matches my goal or it does not. No hard feelings.

Will this be an issue on lease return if you don’t escalate it now?

I don’t think so. As long as the warning light remains offline. Everything works now. I will escalate if the light comes back up.
