Have a tangentially related question - I’m going to need another jumbo vehicle soon because I’m carrying a ton of cargo and boxes for the new job. What are my best options for max cargo space in a vehicle? I know there’s the minivan route but Toyota Sienna’s with any comfort options in them are impossible to get, and on the SUV side its hard to really tell which options are best for ‘hauling’ rather than fitting 7 kids inside of them. cargo specs don’t really seem to tell the full story from what I’ve looked at because a lot of the 3-row option space gets taken up by dealing with the dumb 3rd row.
any suggestions on something comfortable to drive in with a ton of storage space would be welcome.
My only tips are to make sure there isn’t a third row option or second row captain chairs. You want an SUV with a bench 2nd row that just folds flat to allow for the entire back of the vehicle to be floor space.
A fun fact is the Toyota Sienna can fit a sheet of plywood with everything folded down. I will admit we had a weak moment and looked at one. They’re very nice and great on gas since they are hybrid now. I wouldn’t touch the Pacifica… MOPAR stuff is trash wrapped in fancy looking interiors.
certainly doable but i’d like to keep this more to the retail market rather than the industrial side. i don’t quite need THAT much space at the moment.
also an option although their reliability does leave something to be desired.
yes i’d like it to at least resemble a regular automobile of some sort.
yes that’s been a hangup as well. some of the SUV’s and minivans seem to have weird option packages where certain accessories or options or models only come with a captain chair. also, depending on the model, some of the 2nd row seats seem to seem to fold up very poorly, and severely limit the amount of space provided while they’re down.
I’d consider going used with a previous generation Sienna. Those will have 2nd and 3rd row fold flat for maximum cargo capacity. You can’t fold the 2nd row down (it slides forward to get out of the way) on the newer hybrid versions.
oh that’s very interesting. thanks for letting me know that. might seriously alter my search.
i’ve thought about it, trust me. but i’m not allowed to have a work truck/van here in the community. stupid HOA rules.
well @Jrouleau426’s no slouch either. just the reality on the ground from what i’ve seen in my preliminary search.
the chrysler pacifica seems like a good option but lease deals are few and far between from what i’ve seen and the huge markup really over the gas model really seems to eat the entire $7500 in lease cash.
I always find it funny when people complain about the HOA/CCRs where they live, yet they were provided to them by law prior to purchasing or renting and yet they moved in anyway.
Any place that would stop me from have a “work van” is a place where I wouldn’t live anyway.
If the Malum Prohibitum included “work vans” I could only imagine the rest of the list that would have had me moving on already at Paragraph Three of Page One.
