Used car / Service loaner leasing / lease end buyout questions

Hi hackers,

Couple questions I had that aren’t really clear to me and hoping people with experience can help as I’ve only been used to returning and leasing new vehicles in the past few cycles.

  1. I have a 2024 iX coming off lease in 2 weeks (haven’t extended yet but it’s an option as I consider waiting for the iX3). I found on BMWUSA they are offering 2.49% financing for 72 months on used BMW iXs. Does anyone know if BMWFS would offer that if I wanted to buy out my vehicle and if so, how can I go about that? I know I can just call and ask but hoping for any experience on that. Also, bonus question - they say they don’t negotiate buyout online, but is that actually true or can I find some space if I call them?

  2. At the dealer I normally shop, they don’t have new iXs but I randomly decided to look at their used cars and say 3 2026 iX vehicles with a few thousand miles. I figure those are retired service loaners. If that’s the case, can I still lease them using the new vehicle programs (and a demo car mileage credit) or once they are transferred to ‘used’ they can no longer be leased? I don’t know how to reach out to the dealer directly to ask since my sales advisor left and they don’t seem to be answering online inquiries, so again, while easier to just call and ask, I’d appreciate any experience or advice fellow hackers have.

If relevant, I’m in NJ

  1. No. The financing deal is on certified pre-owned vehicles in stock. Your lease return does not qualify. They will not negotiate your buyout.

  2. As long as it was used as a loaner/demo, they are available to lease. Many people (myself included) have gone this route as there can be good deals to do so. With the iX going away, I think the consensus has been that they are not willing to “give them away”. Also, I think the actual demo market for iX s pretty dry at this point, so I’d be shocked if the ones at your dealer are actual demos. You can detective your way through viewing the Carfax and seeing if the vehicle was titled to an owner or just through the dealer (demo) without having to inquire with the dealer directly. They’ll almost always be CPOs too. If they’re listed as straight used (or not in the dealers “demo” section on the website, almost certainly not demos.

Thanks for the insight. On the demo question, I found another way on the dealer site to filter by service demos and it came up. When I clicked the car fax, it shows it as 1 owner, and says corporate fleet vehicle, so in theory that should be lease-able, right? It has 7,000 miles, given you went that route yourself, curious if you don’t mind sharing the kind of discount you got on your service loaner and mileage. I know programs change, but just high level.

Should be good to go with that one you found then. Sounds like one that qualifies.

I didn’t lease an iX, a different model and a '25, so it wouldn’t be a good comparison. I’ve seen pretty much all the brokers in the northeast bmw marketplace say that these things aren’t being heavily discounted, but maybe you could search through and see what the last ones they had went for and work from there.
