Understanding Toyota (TFS) Leases

I’m casting a wide net as far as manufacturers for my next lease. Next up is Toyota. Right when I wrap my head around one manufacturer it’s a whole new playing field with the next.

I am emailing with 3 Toyota dealers and none are giving me identical info etc. Having US Bank in the mix adds another confusing detail. But for these questions, lets focus on TFS leasing.

Question:
Any truth to this?
One dealer is telling me there are no rebates on leases it’s A) Customer Cash (aka published rebate) or B) Special APR for Purchase or C) “Special money factor on a lease”
He has shared the “special” MF by sending me the full January sheet from Toyota and residuals via quotes.

Just go on Edmunds and they will provide you with the TFS rates and RV for the model you are looking for.

Thanks for the quick response but that’s not the question. I have the Toyota “Hot Sheet” for my region in my hand that provides MF’s and he provided me quotes for every single trim level of 4Runner, Tundra and Highlander that contains residuals for 24/12 and 27/12 that I requested.
I have all the data, he is telling me that there are no lease rebates when using TFS.
Thanks.

Might be a good question for @Cody_Carter!

Rebates vary. Some rebates are lease only. If a car has a special MF you can’t combine purchase rebates. You can take the purchase rebates if you choose standard MF

Like 2019 Tacoma for example. “Special MF” is .00226 and no rebate. Or you can do “Standard MF” .00255 and $2000 purchase rebate.

Thanks Cody.
In your experience is the standard MF with rebate ever better, typically very similar or not even close?
Thanks a lot!

I feel like he’s messing with me somehow as well. I keep repeating zero down, zero drive off, no GAP and he keeps including GAP and approximately (but not exactly) 1 payment down. The calculator matches without the added $$ down.

It’s really tough to say. Depends on model and incentives. Tacoma 4Runner Tundra it’s better to use rebates most of the time

What would be the MF, residual, lease, and loyalty credits on a 2020 Toyota Tacoma
TRD Off Road Double Cab 5’ Bed V6 4WD Automatic
Quicksand Color, Cement; 36 mo/15,000 yr, my zip code is 24501

Edmunds is the best source for that info

where on edmunds would i find the money factor and residual

Google “edmunds lease forum” find the make/model thread and ask. Someone usually replies within an hour or two.

Ugh…Colorado is HARD to hack a lease!!

The clear volume leader Toyota dealer is even hard to deal with. I get nothing but vague replies and they won’t share an official proposal. I stated my proposed deal on a 4Runner for example; they reply with a vague monthly payment thats $128 more then my proposal with no accompanying details ie. no MSRP, no discount, and the wrong terms (I asked for 36/12 and got a 36/10 quote) I replied and said “I asked for 36/12 and you gave me a vague reply stating 36/10?” Their reply was no explanation and re sending the previous $128/month high quote now showing 36/12.

Manufactures that I’ve dealt with so far and struck out trying to hack a lease:
-MB
-Ford (Was kinda successful on getting reasonable monthlies but they won’t share incentives)
-GMC (stonewalled when anything over 5% discount it mentioned)
-Chevrolet (Please see GMC above)
-Toyota (Not a ton of US Bank/Ally dealers near me but even so they aren’t TOUCHING anywhere close to 12% off MSRP)

Just venting

If your market does not allow the deals you are presenting you need to cast a bigger net to other markets or realize you are not being reasonable if no one will bite. Try Los Angeles area if you want dealers that are more competitive.

I thought LA was super challenging…or are you being facetious?

Anyway, yes I have cast a wider net and will likely end up working with Jim in Philly or one of the other dealers I have located recently that use US Bank and/or Ally.

Thanks.

Have you tried calling and speaking with someone? You wrote “they reply” so I’m assuming you’re just emailing. You may not be reaching someone that has access to the intel you’re looking for while shopping. Best way would be to call on the phone and make friends with someone at the high volume store, tell them what you’re looking for, how you’ve been doing your homework and what you’ve found and are sincere about putting a deal together that makes sense. They will more than likely open up a lot more.
