Need some advice on canceling the MPU service contract. Was fooled into buying the MPU service contract by the BMW f&I person. She basically told me I need to change the brake pad in the middle of 3 year lease. Later after reading several post online, I tried to call them and check if there’s any misunderstanding. When I finally got hold of the person who sold me the contract after 6+ phone calls, her reaction was very rude and said I need to go back to the dealer to do a car read to cancel it. However, when I ask her to send me the complete service contract, which she never showed it to me when signing the lease. the contract requires both parties’ signatures and says the contract can be canceled within 60 days in CA. All it required was a written notice send to the dealer with mail. After I pointing that out, they send me a cancellation form and asked me to put the signature and sent it back with the letter. I mailed them the form and letter accordingly but never heard back from them. I already sent them two emails asking for update and no reply at all.
Does anyone know any other way I can resort to in order to get this cancelled soon? really don’t want to have anything to do with this dealership. Many thanks
Keep records of everything, record the conversations with notice…pray that they fuck up and don’t cancel it so you can sue them…that would be an easy win for you under CA law. Personally, I’m surprised they are being this reckless…get a hold of the GM of the dealer.
Thanks. I’ll probably resort to litigation. I did try to contact the GM. First time the front desk said he is not there on weekend. the second time on weekday, they asked what’s the issue and directed the call to F&I instead. that’s how I finally got hold of the F&I person after several calls. and she was rude
I had the same situation in CA as well where as soon as I got home with the car I regretted getting a wear and tear protection so I called and emailed to cancel. I kept getting excuse after excuse why it wasn’t being cancelled when I did get a response. I also called corporate (Infiniti) and while they were receptive to the my concerns, initially they informed me that there was only so much they could do and that the dealer had the process the refund. Finally I was able to get the situation escalated with Infiniti and they processed on their end. It took hours of calls and emails and weeks to get it processed. It was a nightmare. The dealership has zero incentive to provide a refund since they made money off the added protection package.
A formal letter from an attorney detailing how they are breaking the law seems like incentive to me. Not saying they won’t make it difficult, but they do have to follow the rule of law.
I’m an attorney and that didn’t help my situation at all so I don’t think that’s always going to be the solution unless someone was to discover facts that the dealership has some sort of systematic business practice that could potentially result in a lot of damages to make a lawsuit worthwhile. At some point I could have filed a small claims case and that may have got their attention but that would take a lot more time, energy and costs. As frustrating as it was, I found that the better option was to pressure the dealership through the manufacturer.
Call BMWFS directly and they can relate message to dealership. It is possible but a lot of nagging from your end to the dealer cause they will be losing % of the sale
Also leave terrible reviews on all websites, google, cars.com, yelp, cargurus, you name it. Or just go to the dealership and cause a big stink, they don’t want other customers seeing that. Again situations like this is why I suggest buying nothing from the sleaze in F&I
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I left another review about this issue on yelp and it did prompt the GM to give me a reply on yelp (email never works). The contract has been canceled. Lesson learnt
