Trouble getting title from Audi/VW FS after lease buyout

Has anyone done a lease end purchase from Audi in the past few months and gotten the title?

I got a call from my lender saying they still haven’t gotten the title from Audi FS and it’s been 3 months. They say it’s a fairly common problem with Audi/VW FS lately.

Unfortunately, they have to convert the loan to a personal loan if Audi doesn’t cough up the paperwork. Which means a substantial increase in the rate…

Any tips how to speed it along?

Thanks.

Although I have leased Audis (currently leasing one), I am yet to do a lease buyout. However, I cannot understand how waiting 3 months for a car’s title is normal.

I am sure you have called AFS. What was their response? Have you tried escalating this issue?

What state are you in?

California.

They said they changed vendors for handling title/docs back in January and everything is backed up. The person I called just said I have to wait.

I figure I’d ask here before trying again.

What’s the escalation path? “Ask to speak a supervisor?”

No clue, but if you don’t call and ask, you will never know.

I’d confirm that Audi FS is requesting the title release be expedited, but CA is not the delay here.

Honestly I’d file a complaint with the CA AG’s office. 3 months is ludicrous.

Yes - this looks like a known issue on Audi forums. I bought my car from Audi FS at lease end (Only 4 weeks so far for me) and no title, people have been waiting much longer. Audi FS doesn’t respond to emails and phone calls require at least 45 minutes on hold most times. They will not say how long it will take. They cashed my check right away but have not sent any type of proof of purchase or communication about the title. Quite frustrating as am waiting on this to sell the car.

Well they just mailed it. When I first called them, the tracking info wasn’t in the system yet.

It’s been ~15 weeks. Goodness.

And I know they did something wrong because I got a notice of incomplete registration from the DMV. So it took their vendor more than one try.

Really wish there was a way hold them accountable for such delays.

Very frustration regarding the delay in receiving the title for my Audi A8. I paid off my loans for the car in early March, and it has now been almost two months since then. I recently sold the car, but unfortunately, I need to cancel the sale due to the delay in receiving the title.

I have spoken to customer service representatives, and I understand that it may take 1-2 more months to receive the title. The manager overnight a release of lean letter.
I took the letter to the DMV and paid $50 to get a replacement title. DMV said I will take 2-4 weeks

I’m wondering if I should do the same thing. How hard is it to get the lien release letter and is that all you need at the DMV?

The agent overnight the letter to my house. DMV asked for my driver license and asked how many miles on the car, I paid my $51 fees. I live in Illinois.

You didn’t need to provide the original title to the DMV?

No just the letter and ID

My result was very different. They said they can’t do a lien release because the title is under Audi. They can only provide a paid in full letter which I don’t think that will do anything.
