When looking at a trade in. 2014 x5 i50 103k miles
What’s a reasonable amount to expect to be deducted for:
All 4 rims major curb rash?
Breaks that are 3k out?
Missing rear air control buttons
One of the 360 surround cams being out
If I go to endmunds and kbb and select Fair condition value is that an acutare value to expect and demand from a dealer?
What I’m trying to figuer out if it make sense to repair some of these things. Cleaning up rims is a quick fix. Could try to do a break job on the cheap my self.
I guess I’m wondering if there’s a formula out there somewhere how much to drop for what.
That’s going to depend on how cheaply you can repair everything.
As forbs mentioned above go to Carmax or Carvana etc. and set the condition to good, get trade in values, then find another VIN and set the condition to kind of rough, has issues, etc. and see what the difference is.
Assume the mindset of a used car dealer. They want to flip/resell the car quickly or send it to auction. Either way, curb rash and low brake depth are mundane for them. They know what to ignore and what to repair for cheap.
Missing buttons and cameras, OTOH, are rightly or wrongly going to be assumed to be more of a headache (because they’ll need to find someone beyond the cheap labor they’re using to do brakes and oil changes all day every day), or a wait for parts.
If you’re going to tackle anything yourself, tackle those two.
It probably won’t matter much on a car that is going to auction anyway. I’m seeing carmax offers 30-50% under “trade in value” on 100k+ mile cars right now. You’re going to be better off cleaning it up and selling it at a sweet price to a private party.
