Toyota/Lexus limiting Lease buyout from 3rd Parties?!

Just saw a reel from “benzandbowties” where he’s speculating that starting Oct 1, Toyota & Lexus financial are going to stop allowing 3rd Party buyouts of leases and force you to go back to original dealer to perform buyout, is there any truth to it?

I wonder why he’s not saying MSD may no longer be supported by MBFS instead???

Yes and no. They will stop 3rd party buyouts Oct 1. however you can sell/return to any Lexus or Toyota dealer.

Doesn’t fit his narrative or his customers don’t know what msds are anyways lol

I guess not bad as much as I thought but wonder if this is next step in their effort to curb broker/out of state sales.

I wonder if it anything to do with people flipping new ‘26 RAV4s to carmax & Carvana?

I doubt it…there are barely any out there to buy…I doubt people are leasing to flip.

I think the speculation was only for leases. I don’t think Rav4s lease well anyway.

You are right. They lease terribly.

Makes sense for Mazda too as they use TFS now as well.

Then probably just trying to keep inventory in the network instead of going to 3rd parties.

This probably will affect new leases originating on or after Oct 1st?

Sounds like starting OCT 1, no more 3rd party buyouts regardless of origination date.

Hopefully corporate employees get an exception. I was hoping to pick up a Lexus from a friend.

There’s always autonation lithia etc, since they have Toy dealers, right?

I guess Toyota is really struggling with inventory levels. That’s the only conclusion I can reach.

Or they watched carvana and carmax get rich off of their cars, and decided to protect their lease retention / dealer base, albeit 5 years too late?

5 year too late for sure but I would think that only thing they really care about is possible retention but I don’t think Toyota was hurting for new car sales.

I really think that dealers are probably complaining about seeing other 3rd parties eating their lunch…

Your friend can transfer the lease to you…if he sold you the car at the end of his lease that would a first party transaction and has never been allowed. A 3rd party transaction has been which is selling to a dealer ( Carmax, etc… )

If I buy it from them, it’s 3rd party not 1st party (they would be the 1st party). Without going into detail, I know some aspects of the corporate leases work differently so I guess we’ll find out next year when they can get rid of it.
