Toyota bringing GR Corolla and Crown to the US market! is the rumor true?

Toyota Trenchmouth, anyone?

Well, people seem crazy about lifted anything, so maybe they think it’ll work for a luxury sedan? Esp if it’s an EV? Maybe filling in the gap left by the Avalon?

I don’t actually think it’s unattractive.

my guess is it will have some sort of hybrid powertrain. just wish it doesn’t turn out like the exterior design seen in the sketches.

Will Royale be the top or entry trim level?

Is that an actual trim level of previous Crowns?

So it looks like the Crown will be to the Camry what the Venza is to the RAV4? I hate to say it, but I could totally be the market for this car (esp if it’s more refined and luxurious than a Camry). Argh.

I think it’s kinda funky but I have awful taste and actually kinda liked the Crosstour and the very short lived Volvo S60 Cross Country. I think with ADM’s this’ll probably be too fancy for my budget but I’d certainly be interested in a used version in a decade or so.

remember drinking this way back in the days at clubs in Ktown because this is one of cheapest bottle they sell. thought it’s the grown up adult’s drink back then lol. there is nothing royal about this nasty tasting whiskey they called it. haven’t had a sip of this in 20 yrs since then.

the new crown actually looks better than I anticipated. interesting to see the performance figures on the platinum trim with the turbo engine and 2 electric motors.

Some specs and pics.

I’m not getting the point of the turbo one; it barely gets better fuel economy than, say, an Audi A6 V6. I also find the two-tone paint scheme to be truly bizarre. Not sure why they didn’t make this a hatch, and also not sure why the rear quarter body panels create the impression of a trunk opening that doesn’t actually exist. The hard plastics in the interior are also quite obvious in pics, so I can’t imagine what they’ll look like in real life.

Having said that, I like the overall shape, the headlights, and the tailights (rather futuristic looking).

I imagine it’ll probably sell as well as the Avalon did? But I don’t this being a big seller at all.

How old is the target customer?

Someone so old that they hate CUV/SUVs and yearn for big, plush sedans like the land yachts of yore. And also someone who’s creaking bones need a higher ride-height and ingress/egress than traditional plush sedans.

With how big the screens are, I can’t tell if they’re aiming this at Millenials or making it so that the people with cataracts who shouldn’t be driving can read the text on screen.

Had my first at 41, back when they gave an option for which lens you’d prefer. I chose a close lens, so I could see screens better without glasses. Huge mistake, my brain didn’t ‘switch’ and I had to look at my feet as I walked, for years, as I saw and ‘felt’ them in different spots as I placed them on the ground. Finally got a $800 pair of subscription sunglasses to try to help, but couldn’t see a thing through them, unusable. Broke a regular pair, so had to rely on the $800 pair while a awaited a new normal pair (Maui Jim), and suddenly, and still unable to see through them, my brain finally ‘flipped’. Without glasses, can now see normally, and am HAPPY to need reading glasses for labels/text…it’s perfectly normal at my age. I suppose the reason I wrote all of this is to remind that cataracts aren’t just old people, and that we got along fine without screens in cars since forever, and many still prefer it.

If it’s Toyota, assume the latter.

Are there enough buyers in that demographic to make a business case? I mean, the Avalon apparently couldn’t make a business case for itself, and I don’t think 4 inches of additional ground clearance will bring lots of people out of the woodwork…

This is the company that thought Scion breadboxes would appeal to 24yr olds.

You know, the first Scions in the US had a kind of JDM-cool vibe (not that I’d ever own one, though)…

In the same boat, sold the STI in 2021, want to get back into a manual 300hp awd car now for just fun driving. Have an EUV for the commuter, Rav4 for family vehicle and a Toyota Tacoma for truck duties. Praying somehow I can end up with a GR Corolla and also turn the Rav4 into a new Sequoia for the family car and better towing capacity.
