The ghosts of BMW

Interesting that you don’t see many BMW threads on here anymore. I guess the tightening of their leases, elimination of MSD’s and shorter maintenance has made them un-hacker(ish). Just a few months back they scattered all over LH. Sad.

Yeah, the days of cheap BMW leases are over for the time being. The BMW action is going to be taking advantage of the over-supply of off lease vehicles and getting a great price on a CPO car but you’ll have to buy those, not lease them.

The best leasing BMW at the moment is probably the 330e because they have $5,500 lease cash on it. Even so if you want anything on the car it is in the $400 range.

The problem is that 90% of CPO’s are sold at BMW dealers, and they seem to hold steady on prices. I rarely see great deals on them. They are all priced the same give or take a few hundred.

But you can talk them down by pointing out how long it’s been sitting on their lot and how many similar ones they have, not to mention how many similar ones their competitors have.

i will never understand why they took away the MSD program. I would be surprised if 3% of all leases used MSDs, almost no BMW sales person i ever talked to even knew what MSDs are. So it’s not like this was a big money loser for them.

Not sure if people recall, BMW actually allowed 10 MSDs a long time ago.

I agree though, everything BMW did this year is bad for lease hackers. BMW was always the best driving car for the money, now one might have to look elsewhere unless BMW starts supporting the leases again which seems unlikely.
I think once the 2018s hit the lots, it will be interesting to see how they’re going to go about clearing out the 2017s. I would sit tight on a BMW until Aug/Sep to see what happens.

@jmac63, has this worked for you? I’ve tried and they wouldn’t budge much here in the largest market, southern Ca.

I see lots of price differences in So. Cal but it can be hard to compare used cars. Each is unique. If you are looking for a unicorn in terms of color and options you can get stuck on price as dealers will know what they have and refuse to discount. They seem more willing to trade on cars when there are a ton with very similar options. Think all those leased 3 series cars with just backup cameras and perhaps navigation.

But I guess that is a rabbit hole not to go down here- after all this is Leasehackr not Usedhackr…

I’ve never purchased a CPO BMW before, but that is how it should work. If they don’t budge, then follow though with your promise to go to a competitor.
