All of that is secondary. E30 M3s came with useless engines and people used to swap those out too. Once they became collector cars, suddenly originality was paramount.
If or when E36 M3s become collectible no one will pay top dollar except for a completely original powertrain.
That M3 is a weekend fun type of car. Definitely not a collectors car. The price is high but for $15k it would be a fun car.
I have owned an SMG 3 car and driven SMG 1 & 2 they are all POS. Even that reverse shift delay is a reason not to buy one.
