I have no idea why, but few cars attract more sketchy people, posers and oddballs than the CLS.
I’ve never been willing to consider a new one due to that stank, and I sure as hell wouldn’t want to be holding the bag as owner #4 (or is it #5?).
I would bet that it was repo’d at least once, which may or may not explain the discrepancy in the previous owner count.
