Thank You to Our Community! Here's What We Built Together in 2020

As we enter the new year, we would like to recognize and thank those who have contributed their time and resources into building the Leasehackr Forum community, as well as to share some incremental changes that we implemented with your help. Whether it’s through sharing your expertise, donating for the upkeep of our tech infrastructure, or building new tools, we greatly appreciate it!

Thank you to our supporters!

Thank you to all our @supporters who contributed to the Leasehackr Tech Support Fund. As many of you know, we are a team of two who maintains Leasehackr outside of our day jobs. Donations made to this fund go towards technical support, server hosting fees, licenses, and other investments toward the reliability of this platform. Since we launched this fund in May 2020, we’ve raised over $4,400 from one-time donations with the average donation amount being $24.

Additionally, a huge thank you goes to our sustaining monthly donors. To show our appreciation and provide recognition for these monthly contributors, we’ve created a new Super Supporters group (@super_supporters). You can sign up to be a Super Supporter here! The average monthly donation amount is $10.

Thank you to our Trusted Hackrs!

We also owe a debt of gratitude to our @trusted_hackrs. Trusted Hackrs are nominated by users and are recognized for the contributions they bring. They are leaders who the community trusts for their knowledge and judgment. Additionally, Trusted Hackrs may choose to exercise their moderation privileges to help keep the forum a conducive space for learning, exchanging ideas, and discovering great leases.

We greatly appreciate each and every one of our Trusted Hackrs! A shout-out goes to @mllcb42, along with @chrishs2000, @ElectricEliminator, and @jamiemose, for their generous and insightful responses to new users seeking guidance. And a big thank you goes to our eagle-eyed and quick-to-respond OGs, @Ursus, @max_g, @mp11477, and @Jon, who by sheer volume are responsible for a large chunk of Ask the Hackrs replies.

In the coming days, we will reopen Trusted Hackrs nominations for 2021, so keep your eyes peeled for that! Feel free to start thinking about fellow members you trust and wish to recognize.

New Features Implemented

Thanks to your avid participation and constructive feedback, we had a productive 2020 with an array of features implemented to improve user experience. Check them out if you haven’t already!

  • Find A Deal. A quick filter of Marketplace topics by location, make, and price range to help shoppers to locate deals.

  • Find A Seller. A tool that connects shoppers to the right sellers based on their location, interested make, and preferred business type.

  • Saved Searches. Get notifications if any new topics or posts are created that match your saved search criteria (Preferences > Saved Searches). This is useful for folks with specific interests.

  • Go to Original Post button. Quick link at the end of the topic to return to the OP. This would be particularly helpful in directing shoppers to the original post for deal details and seller’s info in the Marketplace.

  • Solved button. Original posters and Trusted Hackrs can mark a topic as solved in Ask the Hackrs. This would be useful in concluding discussions that have met their goal.

  • Popular tags. The most frequently used tags are now listed in a column within each category to help new users navigate through the discussions.

  • Marketplace Ad Auction. Businesses can now bid for premium ad placement within Marketplace sub-categories. This not only enables businesses to elevate their presence as needed at an affordable cost, but it also creates additional revenue for our Tech Support Fund.

  • Tech Lounge. Home to our volunteer @tech_crew. New tools have been incubating there!

  • Slow Mode. Trusted Hackrs are encouraged to deploy the new Slow Mode, which limits the frequency of replies, to cool down topics that have flamed up as an alternative to closing topics.

  • Canned responses. Trusted Hackrs can now provide pre-written responses to frequently asked questions in order to guide new users in the right direction.

  • Cakeday! You may have noticed celebratory emojis by your username. These are to celebrate your anniversary on Leasehackr. Here are today’s anniversaries!

Despite the trying year, we found a kindred spirit in this community. We are truly grateful. We look forward to an exciting new year with you all!

Thank you for all of the work you two do and for the community you have created. Aside from the info about leasing, it’s also nice to have a place that’s a bit of an escape from all the craziness of the outside world.

I would just like to say congratulations to everything you have built here. You not only continue to foster a valuable community, but you continue to innovate and drive more value for your users.

I have leased two cars in the last 4 months. I will not likely lease another car for at least 2 years, and I still come here every day. I’d like to believe if you are trying to find a qualitative barometer that indicates whether you are achieving success with this forum, this is it.
