Tesla Ordering Tips - And Most Other Reasonable Things Tesla [but no more]

Well apparently it’s something that can be configured…

First LCA replacement under warranty and the car came back with no AP nag at all. Once the other LCA was replaced that had been defeated and now operates normally.

Ok so my EDD went from September-October to June-July yesterday.

Today EDD just went to June 17-21st, and a VIN was just assigned. Still don’t have my financing in place :joy:

That seems to be the Tesla MO. They leave you no time to find financing because they insist on a pickup within 3 days. Forces you to go with their (us bank) financing.

I mean, do I have to take delivery immediately or can it wait a few days? Planning to go to my CU and apply for a loan tomorrow.

If the car is ready to deliver, they usually give you a 3 day window to pick from. They really stay on you to pickup in that window. Maybe you can squeeze another day or two if you are nice and get a good SA.

Crazy, ok gonna really have to have financing done by tomorrow.

It’s not always USB. Could be Wells or Harris too.

Or Alliant.

Honestly, I’m putting a large amount down so it’s not a huge deal if I get forced into Tesla’s financing, but would still like to save the 1k over the life of the loan.

Definitely regional. But yup, spot on.

You can always refinance. One thing about Tesla… no dealer sweating you to keep the financing in place for 3 months.

That’s true, not a problem.

Try Allegacy Federal Credit Union. See more below. TL;DR Tesla customer support is very hit or miss, and Allegacy is awesome.

So, an update to my earlier post about trying to buy a demo model y for my girlfriend from California. I noticed after placing the order, that it has an estimated delivery of December 22. I figured that couldn’t be right, and called them. It took 3 calls for them to figure things out. They said it was a software glitch and the car wasn’t available. My two options were 1. Apply for a refund, 2. Wait for an inventory model to become available in my home state (WA).

I opted for #2, as the rep said they’d be dropping inventory in the next few days and I’d have first dibs. Well, a few days go by and radio silence. I call in, and they say they’ll get back to me within 24 hours. Ghosted again.

Finally, on Tuesday I figured I wouldn’t be getting a response from them, so I called in again to try to get my order fee back. I managed to get through to a different, extremely helpful rep. She found a brand new car available locally, with the options i wanted, which was available for delivery on Tuesday. We agreed to everything on the call, I locked in the price and started trying to get financing done.

Tesla said I needed to take delivery by Saturday. I initially contacted Allegacy for financing, but with them being on the other side of the country, I figured they’d be too slow, so I hit up some local CUs. However, every single one had various holdups with my girlfriends credit (it’s high, but this is her first car loan) and wouldn’t give their best rates. By now it was Wednesday morning, and I was just desperate to get her approved anywhere, as 1. The fed was going to bump rates and 2. She had to take delivery in two days.

Fortunately, Allegacy actually emailed my girlfriend that morning, and not only did they approve her for their lowest advertised rate, they also did it in record time. They mailed the check on Thursday morning, and she picked up the car with no issues on Friday. Bonus - she also barely got it before Tesla increased prices, which was incredible timing. She also needed it pretty urgently, so I’m still in awe by how well everything worked out.

4 payments.

I changed our order to an MYP from an LR (EDD September) 2.5 weeks ago. Taking delivery on Tuesday. Selling our M3 SR+ to GMTV because they’re far easier and faster to deal with than driveway. For simplicity decided to do Tesla Finance. Low aggravation.
