Tesla Model Y lease double counted sale tax in NJ?

Under the price details Tesla provided, the monthly payment is 533.72 with 36 month term, 0.00294 MF, and $31,856 residual value but it appears this number is calculated with front paid sales tax being included in capitalized cost, which is not right. Based on understanding the accurate number of payment number should be $478.18, which should not include the front paid sales tax when calculating the monthly lease payment in Capitalized Cost.

Tried to reach out to them to get a break down and itemization, but they keep saying their calculation is accurate and is done systematically in accordance with the current tax rate in NJ and State law。

What do I miss here? What’s the secret behind the their calculation?

Seems like they’re not capitalizing sales tax. I am sure theyre paying the sales tax out of the incentives

Yup, that’s what I thought, but the number($533.96/Month) I came out is actually capitalizing sales tax, so I’m very confused.

How are you differentiating between the sales tax being capitalized and the incentive going towards a cap cost reduction or the sales tax being paid directly and a lower cap cost reduction other than by trying to make the amount of the sales tax be tax exempt?

Since they won’t disclose their calculation, I’ve tried my best to work out how they arrived at the $533.96 per month figure, which appears to include capitalizing the upfront sales tax.

Only because that’s how you structured your spreadsheet.

If the taxes are paid upfront out of the rebates, the gross cap cost goes down by the amount of the taxes, but the amount of incentives that can be used as a cap cost reduction decreases by the same amount, so your adjusted cap cost comes out to be the same, only the taxes aren’t capitalized.

ok, they include the sales tax into “Non-Tesla fee” and not sure if it comes out of rebates.
