Subaru third-party lease buyout

Hey folks, I am in CA and have a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek on a 36 mo./10k lease that expires in December 2025 but I am moving across the country and want to dispose of the car.

I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with a third-party lease buyout for a Subaru. I did a third-party lease buyout for my Toyota Corolla a few years ago and ended up getting making some money. Some online vendors made offers for my Subaru that leave me with a small profit and I’d be glad to get some spare change.

Subaru Motors Finance suggests that 3rd-party buyouts aren’t permitted (Financing a Subaru | Subaru Motors Finance) but some folks were talking about a third-party Subaru lease buyout in 2023 and I wanted to see if anyone has first-hand experience.

Thanks!

Our Subaru Ascent lease was set to terminate in Nov 2025 and I sold it to Carvana back in June. Lease was thru Subaru Auto Finance/Chase.

There is a difference between 3rd party private party buyouts and 3rd party dealer buy outs.

Great, that is exactly what I’m hoping to do. How long did the process take? And did Carvana pay Subaru Motors Finance/Chase directly, or did you have to upfront the money and then Carvana paid you?

Hit up @CoastalMotorGroup. They buy it all.

It didn’t take long at all. I went back and forth between Carmax and Carvana, but I’ve sold one to Carvana in the past and the process was painless.

They are the ones purchasing the vehicle, so you don’t need to front anything. The offer they provided was barely over my buyout, so I walked away with a very small check.

Nice. Do you live in CA, and if so, were you charged sales tax or were you able to do the 10-day trick?

The car dealer does not charge you sales tax when they purchase the vehicle.

This is only a thing if you buyout the lease yourself.
