Ignoring the merits of the law, this really exemplifies the problem with ballot initiatives. Massachusetts isn’t California, this was a foreseeable outcome. The law needed to apply to all 2022 or newer vehicles registered in Massachusetts, not just cars purchased there.
Once people start figuring out certain cars bought in Massachusetts are nerfed, many folks will buy Subarus out of state. Which is pretty easy cause my back of the envelope math says about 85% of the population is within an hour of a dealership in RI, CT, NH, VT or NY.
The MA auto dealers association is gonna have to spend some cash to get the law changed to cover all vehicles registered in MA versus just cars purchased in Massachusetts.
