Still confused about Volvo A-plan

I’ve been researching XC90 leases for a while now and read a million articles on A-plan but I’m confused with the changes discussed in a few threads. Being in the PNW it’s hard to get a decent pre-incentive discount so I’m exploring taking the A-plan deal instead (yes I’ve contacted brokers and I’m not getting much response or deals that won’t save me money after I factor in shipping).

I qualify for A-plan elite which offers $750 incentive on the XC90. I also qualify for $2,000 lease cash from Volvo. Does that mean I should get invoice for pre-incentive discount (~6% off) plus the $2,750 in incentives (ie 10.9% total discount off a $56,675msrp car)? Where I got confused was someone mentioning the total discount is capped at 6%. Thanks in advance!

Up until recently, a-plan capped you at ~6% pre-incentive discount. You then added the incentives on top of that. One generally was better off not using a-plan because it wasn’t hard to negotiate a discount more than 6%, so it was worth giving up the a plan bonus incentive. That changed recently, so now one can negotiate whatever discount and then stack the $750 a plan bonus incentive on top.

Yes. ~5% off without advertisement fee or more, if the dealer gives higher discount.

Thank you both! Volvo reimburses the dealer for A plan discounts right? So the 6% off would be reimbursed then any additional discount I negotiate would be the what they are providing?

Dealers get 2% from Volvo for every a-plan deal.

Thank you!

Oh they changed it back now? Volvo keeps flip flopping so much on this.

2 more questions:

  1. is the dealer still required to provide the pricing sheet with an A plan deal that shows invoice price?
  2. to better rephrase my earlier question so I know what to expect from the dealer: for A-plan are they required to use a minimum discount equal to invoice pricing? I am already having 1 dealer fighting to give less than 5%

If they do an a-plan deal, they’re required to itemize all the costs.

They are not required to do an a-plan deal, so if one of them gives you issues, move on to another dealer.

Last question I swear: do you know the max they can mark up the MF? I failed searching here and Google.

Buy rate is .00166 and they’re using .00216 which equates to add’l $50 a month in interest or $1,800 over lease term. Am I right in thinking that’s costing me 3% off lost discount on a $56,675 msrp car?

Yah, 2.5-3%. Usually .0002 markup is roughly 1% of msrp.

Interesting update I just received from the dealer, who seems to deal with A-plan frequently and knew his stuff. He said the recent change they received is that A-plan is now only the $750 incentive - no invoice pricing.

Still seems weird though.

Interesting. There was some debate that may be the case recently. When I log on to the a-plan site now, they seem to have gotten rid of any of the discussion of discounts beyond the bonus, so could be.

Did you check @aronchi Volvo deals? His spreadsheet shows 14% discount on MSRP. A-Plan 750 can be added on top of that. Am I missing something?

Yeah unfortunately he isn’t shipping right now. The a-plan difference might be regional?

It’s worth noting that his deals include the Volvo allowance/dealer cash rolled in to the discount %

Do dealers need your a plan pin to determine your discount? Don’t want to generate a pin until I’m sure I’m taking the offer, but a dealer is asking for the pin.

They don’t need your pin to tell you the discount. And I wouldn’t give it until I have a deal in place.
