nah this was a financed ICE a family member bought in 19’
Did you finally get the check…? Will be great if you can share your experience and the timeline. Thanks!
Received both today. Got tracking numbers on Friday.
Thank you for providing this excellent timeline. One quick question: did Vroom or any 3rd party did a vehicle inspection prior to pick-up?
Vroom driver showed up and turned on the car, open the windows and turned on the wipers. They check the odometer reading and then drove the car up the carrier and was gone in 10 minutes.
So Vroom is like one person who forgets to respond to an email and you have to remind them?
Heard so many horror stories with Vroom. So, the Vroom offers must be significantly higher if you go with them since you have no idea when the check is coming, right? Since Carvana pays on the spot…
I am in process of selling my car (owned outright) through Vroom. It seems like they’d want me to fedex them the title (signed to them!) first thing, than when they have time they will come over and pick the car, adjust the price if see something odd, and some days later send me the check.
Is it right? I feel uneasy about signing and sending title before deal is actually done.
Took forever but finally sold a car to Vroom. Tried to sell a 4Runner back in May but it took so long that I gave up and sold to AutoNation (got them to price match). AutoNation sale was completed the same day with check in hand.
This time, Vroom’s offer for a 330e was $6k more than Carvana ($43k vs $36,958). So I endured the pain.
Nov 5 - Vroom offer received and accepted
Nov 5 - Uploaded registration information
Nov 6 - Received email that Vroom was still working on getting payoff doc from BMWFS and asked if I could get it sooner. I sent payoff letter but they said customer payoff wasn’t sufficient (even though it contained exactly what they asked for…10 day payoff and per diem amount). I explained that this is a loan, not a lease, so the payoff cannot be any different to Vroom. She insisted I get a “dealer payoff”. My BMW dealer was gracious enough to pull up their version of a payoff quote but it was a generic page that didn’t specifically say it was a “dealer payoff” quote. Vroom ended up accepting that.
Nov 7 - Received and completed DocuSign and thought I was done with docs
Nov 9 - Informed that a FedEx was being sent for me to sign a doc using wet ink
Nov 10 - Received doc, signed and returned via FedEx
Nov 11 - Received email that all docs complete and I would receive an email within 2 days scheduling the pickup
Nov 14 - Didn’t receive pick up email and called Vroom. No help.
Nov 15 - Didn’t receive pick up email and called Vroom. Asked if I could just drop the car off at the Vroom Last Mile Distribution Center outside Atlanta. They gave me the number to the distribution center but I just got voicemail. Left message but no one ever returned call.
Nov 16 - Didn’t receive pick up email and called Vroom. Got the name of the logistics company that Vroom uses in the ATL area. Called them and they said they could pick it up earlier but couldn’t do so until I received the pickup email from Vroom.
Nov 16 - Received email that pickup was ready to schedule. They provided a link to a 3rd party shipping platform that posts the pickup/delivery job and waits for a contractor to accept the contract.
Nov 17 - Received email that the job was accepted and the car would be picked up on Nov 18. I called the 3rd party shipping platform and they provided the contact info for the towing company that accepted the job. Called them directly and they were happy to pick it up the same day.
Waiting for payment but I don’t anticipate any issues (all reviews indicate Vroom pays quickly). It took 12 days to complete the sale to Vroom with me immediately responding to every request. For comparison, I’ve sold 2 cars to Carvana with one sale taking 2 days and the other taking 3 days. Carvana sends you the DocuSign within a few hours and schedules the pick up immediately after. I’m guessing Carvana can do this because they have employees picking up vehicles that can get wet signatures in person if needed. Vroom uses 3rd parties to pick up vehicles and wants to have everything signed in advance. Extra $6k is worth the extra 10 day hassle but it is a PITA.
Just for comparison, when I sold my Blazer to CarBuyerUSA, they had me overnight the signed title to them, then once they received the title and confirmed it was good, they issued the payoff to my lender and wired me the remaining balance by COB the same day. They picked up the car a couple days later.
Did they inspect the car in advance? Pretty risky for them to pay off the car before actually seeing it.
Yeah, they inspected prior to all that.
My experience with Vroom has been one of extreme frustration and disorganization. This could be the most poorly run company I have ever come across. I am buying puts on this POS on Monday.
I bought my Jeep GC lease out 3 months early as I was sitting on equity. Vroom was the highest bid but I was enough that I felt compelled to go with them, definitely second guessing now.
After I got my title etc in the mail I accepted their offer on Halloween, should have been an omen. I uploaded necessary docs multiple times but they kept thinking it was a lease. The back side of the title was/is clearly signed over to me notary and all. Finally got someone competent on the phone and they agreed and sent me docs to docusign. This was completed Nov 2nd and mailed using their return label…which was addressed to me! So 2 days later I get my own package delivered and spend $35 to overnight to them. They assign carrier and they pick up the vehicle late the evening of Nov 10th after calling me 2 hours before. Emailed Bill of Lading on the 11th.
I trust these idiots not at all so I called to confirm paperwork was in order and of course am told it’s a lease and we should not have moved forward with deal. Call again get through to someone in documents and he confirms everything is in order. Payment should be processed soon. Wait till Tuesday still no word. Call again get hung up on and bounced around but again am told that Payment processed soon. It’s now late Friday, they had the car for 9 days still no word on payment. I messaged them via Facebook and am told they are finding a carrier to return the car bc it’s a leased vehicle. I said that is insane…title is signed over to me. Again no response. Am I missing something here? Front of the title lists US Bank (original owner) back is clearly signed over to me after I purchased.
This is the most disorganized incompetent company I’ve ever seen. There is zero communication between departments. When you call they have unlimited departments, sales, acquisitions, documents and who knows what else. What I do know is it’s been 9 days, I don’t have a Jeep and I don’t have $40k.
Pretty sure they don’t have signed over titles. The title needs to be in your name.
If this is the case why is it not more clearly stated? What are the steps necessary to issue a title in my name, a trip to DMV? Everywhere I have looked signing the title over is legal and binding. I can’t get a straight answer from anyone at Vroom.
If you bought it out personally and I assume paid the taxes in the buyout, why did you not get the title in your name? In some states when a vehicle is transferred without titling it first in your name, it’s referred to as title jumping. It can be a grey area or illegal and is the reason many outlets do not accept a lessor released title.
Some companies take it, but many do not. Carvana, Shift and Carmax also won’t take it. I bet most dealerships don’t either.
You cannot sell the vehicle with the title in US BANK. this is not only to vroom but is to anyone. You must first register the Jeep in your name, pay sales tax, and get a new title with your name on the front.
Once that is done you can sell to anyone.
Again, this is not only with Vroom, but no one can legally buy a car with a title that Us bank has signed to you but you haven’t registered yet.
I paid US Bank and the sale tax. Why the hell is there a backside of the title that says “Assignment of Ownership?” US Bank clearly has signed over ownership of the vehicle to me, how is this not binding? More importantly how does Vroom not recognize the potental issue and tell me to go to DMW before picking up the vehicle? My Jeep has been in their possession for 11 days and I haven’t received any word from them nor the $40k we agreed upon. Anyway you slice it this is a horribly run operation.
You only become the registered legal owner once you go to your DMV with this title and apply for a new title with your name on it.
