just sold my car to carvana. i thought they will take care of all the dmv and stuff like that just like a dealership, but apprently not… they told me i need to return my license plate to the dmv.
question. can i mail it back to them? if so which form do i need? the carvana guy told me just bring it to any dmv and drop it off. you do not need to wait in line. Anyone know how this thing work? I research online and people say, if you live in california you do not need to return the license plate. just trash it.
Also can i get back a refund on my registration? i just paid this NOV. if so what form do i need to fill out?
DMV hotline is all automated and cannot talk to an agent
the carvana guy told me to take it off and drop it off to dmv. I mean I have sold car before but never need to take plate out and drop it off to dmv. I already fill out the release of liability on the dmv website.
So do i need to bring the license plate to the DMV? or just trash it.
Lol. Carvana gave you the instructions to take to the DMV, not throw out in the thrash. So, take it to the DMV and hand it over. I’m in NJ and dropped mine off in a box full of plates and left,
so i need to go to dmv and drop it off to a box? when you go the dmv does it say there is a license plate drop off box? or do you have to wait in line?
“Generally, license plates remain with the vehicle they were issued to. Certain types of plates (personalized environmental, special recognition, or special interest) can be reassigned to another vehicle upon request by the owner and payment of appropriate fees.”
I suspect they want to do anything and everything they can to avoid doing business in any way that owes more california taxes than absolutely necessary.
i just chatted with the carvana agent again. if i can mail in my license plate. they say just go to any dmv and drop it off. i say is there a mailbox i can just drop it off without waiting in line or talking to an agent? becuase of the corona virus? i’m scare to go out.
Anyway. the agent says you can trash it as long as you signed the release of liability on your car dmv website you are good.
Doesn’t coronavirus live in the blue bins, OP throw the plates from minimum 6ft and run back to the safety of your car and hand sanitizer as fast as you can.
