Signed- [used] 2023 mb eqs 580 suv - 24mo balloon at $0 DAS $469/mo effective

Frankly I think lots of folks are overplaying this EQ phobia with little evidence of actual high mileage issues. My EQS has been incredible and favored over the iX, Q8, X5, MX, MY. Good job and unless you’re unlucky, you should enjoy it.

Empirically–

  • One local owner car bought, not leased, and serviced at the same local dealership its entire life.
  • First owner extremely wealthy individual who has a reputation of not cutting corners. (he sold it for $55K and bought at $137K plus $5K markup). I was able to trade some texts with him.
  • Appropriate dealer service records for 20K service interval.
  • Selling dealer spent $4600 on the 40k mile service. Saw copy of those invoices, the MB inspection report was comprehensive, similar to a CPO report.
  • Extremely clean vehicle paint. Walked it with a paint meter and no thickness issues. I could not find any paint defects; I would guess it had 5000 miles.
  • Test drove car for 45 minutes at local and highway speeds with no issues.
  • Car was being actively used by GM, he put about 900 miles on since the trade-in with no issues
  • Excellent detail job, even the under-hood area was cleaned. Just shows the dealership has some pride in what they sell.
  • New OEM Pirelli tires w/ alignment report and pristine wheels with no rash.
  • Drove car home 200 miles without issue.

The vehicle may have an issue, or may develop an issue, but I feel confident there is no obvious indication of such right now.

Importantly the electron bits are covered by the federally required warranty which I believe is 8 years and 100k miles. So @z0lt3c is covered if the motor or battery go kaput. Less so on things like the AC.

That’s neat you actually had an open line of communication with the first owner. Seems like you should be in good shape.

I closed on the balloon loan today and terms improved from the quote-

APR- 6.74%
Acq fee reduced to $155
First payment deferred until 11/12
Actual Payment- $502/mo
TCO calculation = $502 * 23 payments / 25 mo
Effective payment $461/mo

That is a crazy cheap lease though. The resid after 24 months and 40k miles appears higher than MMR today.

What happens when the lender realizes they screwed up pricing the resid on the balloon? They know where you live: :balloon: :eyes: :zap:

Just so I can follow along here. Assuming you return the vehicle, where does the $461 effective come from? All-in we are looking at 23 payments @ ~$502 plus the $135 dispo… what am I missing?

how bad we talkin?

Did he trade it for an Aria? lol

The lender is making almost $8K in interest and takes out an insurance policy on the turn-in residual gap. It’s the insurance company that gets stuck, but I suspect they are doing just fine in aggregate. That said would not be surprised to see the MRM change like it did after @Kellstar Lightning deal.

It is.

TCO variables are-

  • 23 payments at $502 required before vehicle return.
  • But first payment isn’t due for 50 days. Essentially the term is 24mo + 50 days.
  • I am rounding the term to 25 months but its closer to 26.

TCO Calc-
23 payments * $502 / 25 months = 460

I did forget about disposition fee.

$195 + (23 payments * $502 ) / 25 months = 469

I’m sure I will get hit for some wear, tear and mile overage.

About $166/mo via State Farm. The Ariya it replaces was $110/mo.

He traded it for another used non-Nissan vehicle. I never found out what.

I would never expect Nissan dealer buying/selling high end cars. Go figure.

Got it. I was thinking of it in the traditional sense of number of actual payments made.

I think it is a good-great deal overall if you like the vehicle. I would likely personally shy away with having no warranty during a period of the ownership, but we’ve seen much higher levels of risk. It provides some interesting LH material nonetheless. :beers:

I can call it $502 a month and 50 free days if you like that better

I posted this in the EQS thread. It can have a warranty, full term, I just don’t need to decide now.

I’m already starting a case with my MB SA for the $0 goodwill ELW option.

I don’t think they are selling many Nissans. They told me new cars sales down 40% m-o-m from last year.

Yeah, I recall seeing something earlier about that. But holy hell that would be increasing the TCO exponentially, especially with a ~2 year term. I know you know that.

You should tell @Dany1122 and @HersheySweet who screwed up pricing the swaps or hedges your lender is using to manage their resid exposure.

Seems they don’t have access to basic valuation tools. The LH’ers may be able to sell a bridge or swampland.

Leaf all you want :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
